Yeah. But nobody deserves it more than we do. 'Cuz we kick all kinds of worldwide ass, in sports or in wars. It should be our possession.
Yeah, we’re definitely overrepresented.
That just shows you hate America.
Are the sports facilities, infrastructure, and planning capability of the world evenly distributed within the population? The money?
I’m glad that South America is getting it btw. Just pointing out that those numbers are a pretty simplistic way of looking at it.
How come there’s never any Summer Olympics in Reykjavic?
A liar and a flip-flopper.
Not just Fox, Yahoo!/AP version.
It’s Margaret.
And you thought his being a Muslim was the big secret.
I can’t fucking believe Barack Obama has done this to America!
kicks a baby
This news/thread is pretty hilarious. America First, indeed.
One thing I can’t figure out… serious GQ question… do the Olympics typically cost or make money for the host city? Cuz I’ve heard both angles played against Obama today. I’m just curious exactly why I should be hating him. Wouldn’t want to be off message.
You do realize that even though it’s being led by the guy you didn’t vote for, it’s still your fucking country, right ? Just making sure.
This weird joy at seing one’s political opponents make catastrophic blunders (real or imaginary), which is everywhere on this board right now, baffles me. Anger, I could understand. Sadness, too. Determination to depose him come next election ? Knock yourself out. Cackling glee however ? That’s some kind of fucked up, excusez mon français.
[Debo]This’ my Olympics punk![/Debo]
It’s simple; they aren’t loyal to America, but only to the Right. It’s been that way for a long time; the Right doesn’t care about America, only about its agendas and about profit. If they think that plunging America into another Great Depression lets them push Guns, Gaybashing and Greed then they’ll try to do just that.
This thread was going along fine until…the Jefe of Broad Brushes (Band Name!) showed up. C’mon, man. There are certainly many, many people in this country of ours that numbers in the half a billion people plus that have a conservative approach (meaning the traditional sense, fiscally speaking) that aren’t the complete loons you are trying to portray the whole voting base as.
I am no longer a Republican (since 2004) because the “Republicans” are no longer the “Republicans” that once were the representatives of idealogy that I (somewhat) supported.
You like to act like everyone that’s the least bit conservative kowtows to the neocons and their evil ilk. It just isn’t so. Nor do “we” all worship at the altar of Hannity, Limbaugh and O’Rielly.
There are some people, like me, that want:
A fiscally responsible government that takes care of it’s citizens
A strong military
A diplomatic approach to foreign policy
SOME kind of immigration laws that are actually enforced, because we cannot sustain the alternative to no laws
Legalization of abortion, marijuana AND the death penalty (I know abortion is legal, I meant it needs to stay that way)
A relaxation or elimination of “The War On Drugs” as it currently sits, filling our prisons with pot dealers
An upholding of the Constitution without a bunch of “gotcha” signing staements
A real and soon end to the sorry war in Iraq
A ramping up and resolution plan for the war in Afghanistan
Government incentives that encourage technological development of viable alternative transportation options
An emissions cap (without the trade, technology can handle it)
An invigorated approach to preserving our natural parks and resources
And so on…
So, Der Trhis, am I so evil then, for hoping to accomplish these things?
Shit, I forgot Universal Healthcare! Am I too late to mention that too?
Fuck.
IIRC, you used to say the most bizarre shit … way out there kind of stuff, extraordinarily hyperbolic. I think you’ve lost your touch.
IIRC, it’s hard to make money from hosting the Olympics, but it can be done. Usually, though, that’s not the focus, so it’s only a lucrative venture for some parts of the city, and hits the rest in the balls, or at least the stomach, as Chefguy said.
You know, these two shmucks have been around for quite a while (**stephe being a '99er even!), and all of sudden, they’re everywhere! Especially our good pal Jim Bob here. What gives?
Obama able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Well, sure, he’s too lazy to walk around it…
We hosted the Winter Games in 2002 in Salt Lake City.
Chicago <> Rio

Remind me - which one has the topless beaches?
Oh yeah, I bet the IOC thought long & hard about that choice.
