How far do you commute?

ColonelDax - if you’re another one who ends up at Moorgate I’m sure you can understand how it takes almost twice as long in the evening rush hour than in early mornings…

200 yards. My work is right across the street from my apartment.

 1. 30 miles.
 2. 45 minutes (good day) to 75 minutes (bad day)
 3. Car, all freeway.

A large part of the reason we left DC.

Then:

Lady Chance and I: 3+ hours round trip, to different areas so we couldn’t do it together.

Now:

She telecommutes. I set up an office two blocks away in the heart of downtown Marietta. Shank’s Mare for me!

35 miles
45 minutes
2002 VW Passat and thank God for satellite radio!

 1. About 20-25 miles one way
 2. Depending on how early I get going, about 25-30 minutes
 3. A lovely little Honda Civic LX that gets wonderful gas mileage. I love it!
 1. 9.5 miles
 2. Normally 20 minutes
 3. My Saturn LS1, mostly on freeways

It takes me about 50 minutes to drive about 30 miles. I have many lights on the first leg of the journey. I thought I would hate it more than I do, but it isn’t so bad.

1. How many miles (km) from home to daily destination?
About 30 miles, if I follow Google Maps’ recommended route, which goes on the highway. I’m not sure of the distance I cover when I take my own route.

2. How long does it take (average)?
On my route, about 1 hour, 30 minutes when I take public transportation. Nowadays, it takes about an hour since I don’t take the bus to the subway station anymore.

3. Travel mode(s)?
Car (used to be bus), then the subway train.

3 km (just under 2 miles).
10 minutes by bike, or half an hour on foot.

I totally meant kilometres!

19 miles

45 - 50 minutes, average. Will be less when the finish the damned construction.

My non-gas guzzling Saturn.

We’re closing down a bunch of buildings, and I hoped that I’d get moved to a location only about 20 minutes away at most, no freeways. No such luck - I’m just lucky I didn’t move to someplace worse.

23 miles.

It is impossible to make the journey in less than 35-40 minutes. At the height of rush hour it takes 90. Add snow and it can take over two hours.

I usually drive a Chevy Prizm which is basically a Toyota Corolla and I get 30-32 mpg which isn’t too shabby.

Hmmm - I live in the Detroit, MI area and I work in the Dallas, TX area. NWA claims this is 995 flight miles. My normal mode of transportation is a Airbus 320 (or similar), but I only use it twice a week. Combine that with drive to the airport, check in, etc & its easily a 7 hour adventure twice weekly.

In road distance (as the motorbike goes), my commute is 11.5 miles of in-city riding each way and it takes me 30-35 minutes on a 200cc scooter (with which gridlock and traffic congestion is only something that happens to other people).

If I take the bus and train, it would be 55-70 minutes.

If I took a 10-minute drive and paid $3 for commuter parking at the train station, it would be 45-55 minutes.

Or in my case…homeschooling.

 1. About 70 miles.

 2. About one hour and change.

 3. '05 Prius, on a variety of freeways (only about two miles of the commute is actually on surface streets).

So you get paid to go from Detroit to Dallas, and we’re supposed to feel sorry for you? :stuck_out_tongue:

Just under 50 miles each way, 45 of which highway. I can do it in 45 minutes depending on trafffic, and, uh, other factors  . 2001 Hyundai Elantra, @ 28-30 mpg.

Used to be about 10 miles each way, until the RIF. I turned down a job 2 miles from my house. But my new salary makes up for it, and then some.

To work, it’s about seven miles, takes less than 10 minutes.

To grad school classes twice a week, 180 miles round trip, about 3 hours on the road.

I drive a 1996 Ford Ranger.
