Baby, it's cold outside.

Whoo-hoo! It’s warmed up enough to snow!

I’m not taking my hands out of my pants until Thursday.

It was a beautiful day here today. In the 40’s. I was out running errands in just a sweatshirt. Well, and jeans of course.

Well we just hit -12, a fair amount earlier then they predicted. It’s making me a bit paranoid though. Not for cold exactly, but all the creaking. I only bought the house a few months ago, and with me toasty warm in here, and freezing ass cold out there, all the trusses and framing are contracting and popping constantly.

I know it’s normal and no big deal, but it is making me paranoid.

We’re at about -2F now. All of Pittsburgh public schools are closed tomorrow and most of the private ones as well. (Am I the only one who still watches to see if my old school is going to have a snow day?)

My wife is a retired teacher. Not only does she still watch for school closings, she gives a little cheer when one of her old schools is announced.

Today the temperature got up to 0, which was higher than predicted.

The high was -2 today. There’s like a foot of snow outside.

I’m dying of boredom. It cause me to log in here for the first time in 10 years, I now remember why I used to love this place. So, excuse my excessive posting, it will die down. I promise.

Well, it got cold again. -14C in Oshawa, with 35-km/h winds gusting to 60, so it feels like -26. But hey, at least the UV levels are low. Mostly because it’s dark.

I’ve been stranded in Chicago since Sunday. I’m in an airport hotel in the suburbs. The hotel is jammed and due to conditions, we are steadily running out of food. About half of the menu was unavailable by the time I got down to dinner because we have had no shipments.

I had to walk a few blocks outside last night. This is not an experience I care to repeat.

I’ve been trying to get home to NYC for the past two days. In theory I will be on a plane tomorrow night, but after three cancelled flights already, I’ll believe it when I see it.

above 0 here in philly, i believe it is 9, with a wicked wind blowing. i’ve got two blocks of an odd wind zone (the buildings are place just so for prime wind velocity) to get past, can’t wait! there are problems with mass trasit.

it is a happy frozen christmas here!

7 in DC. Small beans, but still the coldest I’ve ever been. I’m wearing every item of clothing I own, and it’s not so bad.

In Columbus, OH it’s -3F with a wind chill of -26F.

A friend farther north reported on Facebook that one of their windows shattered from the cold yesterday.

South Jersey…The low was 3 deg F…now risen to 6 deg.

In our heated garage my car’s thermometer read 45. I pulled out and the number rapidly dropped, 44…43…42…41…40…until -7.

Cool!

The thing with the cold vs. warm is that when it’s really cold, like -40C with the windchill cold, is that it’s usually sunny. It’s too cold to snow. So if you’re inside, looking out, it’s cheery. When it warms up, like the predicted +2C on Saturday, it gets cloudy and snowy and icky out. I’m not sure which I’d rather have!

Might be worth trying to get bus, train or rent a car. I just had a friend drive back to Boston from just south of Chicago and it wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be. She stuck to the main interstates, and went slow as needed.

4 degrees, brr. :eek::(:mad:

Fahrenheit numbers just ought not to go negative. It’s wrong. It’s reached 0F here maybe twice in my lifetime.

It was forecast to get down to -18F last night but only got to -12ish. My furnace is running almost non stop despite two electric space heaters. Work was cancelled yesterday. I went in today but few others did. I was outside shoveling snow almost all day. We got almost 10 inches Sunday and it drifted pretty deep. We did have three semis show up to get unloaded. The roads are awful. Currently about zero.

Came home and the cold water line in the kitchen was frozen. Put a heat lamp on it down in the basement and it just now started flowing.

Supposed to be raining by the weekend!

We cracked the 0 barrier for about 30 minutes today. but now it’s back negative.
