It is -9 f in my back yard right now. The winds have calmed down a bit. I just started my truck. The company put a rebuilt engine in it this past summer, and it was hard to start. I am off to the dentist.
I just can’t get a break today…

I just can’t get a break today…
-21F in Minneapolis right now, windchill -44F.
Suffice it to say, I’m staying indoors all day today.
Went out last night when it was -11F, the gym was packed. Taking that first breath outside after spending an hour sweating and puffing - not fun at all.
It’s cold enough here that clicking the C and F buttons on the weather page doesn’t do much of anything. -36/windchill -47 C, or -33/windchill -53F. Hope my block heater timer worked, as I’m back at work today.
For old timers and youngsters alike, the difference between then and now, when it comes to wind chill.
It was -21 about an hour ago when I drove to work. The “high” is supposed to be in the negative teens today.
It’s not as cold as was promised. -12 instead of -18. It isn’t supposed to get any warmer today, though, which freaks me out.
Eh, we should go back to reporting it in watts per square metre, like they did in the seventies.
Well, the weather seems to be already ahead of you on that.
Currently -19F with -45F windchill here in sunny South Dakota. Time for a picnic!!
Will somebody from Chicago please report?
NW Burbs of Chicago. -15 (F).
The one good thing about the frigid temps, when I take Cooper out for his walks/bathroom breaks, he is very prompt, does both eliminations, and asks to go back in right away, 5 minutes tops…
Normally, he’ll just run around at the end of the leash, then stop and just… Stare off into the distance, at nothing, he’d do this for as long as possible, just staring, and when I have to go to work in the morning, this can be very annoying…
Cooper, do your business and go back in, I gotta go to work here…
Balmy -13 here at noon in Minneapolis. -36 wind chill.
I think I’ll take up jogging.
And today in their driveway they have a brand new vehicle. That’s one way of solving the problem.
Was just about to report a heat wave - I looked at my thermometer on the wall by the window and it says -8!
Which was all good until I realized the dryer vent is blowing on the probe. It’s still -15. :smack:
There is just something so wrong when the high temperature is taken at 12:01 AM cause the mercury is dropping like crazy, and will keep doing so all day.
It’s global warming!
I blame Obama.
Its 80F right now in Los Angeles, lows of 51F overnight. I read that an unusually warm front has pushed what is called a “polar vortex” further south than usual from the arctic north. That’s why its so cold, we’re getting North Pole weather!
I should be at work right now. My truck refused to start. It got up to about -12F this afternoon and is now cooling off from there. Earlier I set off for the hardware store to see if they had anything that could help me get my truck going. I slipped on ice and (I hope) didn’t twist my ankel on the way down. It’s hard to say if I damaged anything because I’m arthritic in that ankel so it hurts as a matter of course. I wasn’t sure I was going to be able to get up when it happened. I was in an area very exposed to the high wind when it happened.
Luckily I was able to limp away.
This kind of cold can quickly become dangerous. If I had really been hurt I could have been there for a long time which could have been potentially deadly.
Everyone stay safe out there.
