Baby shower for guys?

My hubby was our shower. I dont remember if it was a girly girl event. I doubt it considering I am about as girly as a barn door. I remeber cake with frosting booties on each piece shudder I (&^%^$%&()&^$$ HATE frosting!

If you look upon a baby shower as simply a social event, then most guys will be delighted to forego it. In my case, however, it was more than that. My wife and I were extremely poor, and couldn’t afford many of the little things that ease a parents’ burden. Bottle warmers, diaper genie, endless stocks of disposable diapers and wipies, etc. When our friends got together and threw us a shower, it was a real blessing that we both deeply appreciated.

At my office, where my wife was not well liked, my supervisors discussed with one another and decided not to throw us a shower, despite the fact that baby showers were being held for other employees on a routine basis. “Oh,” they said, “he’s a man. It’s up to his wife’s office to arrange something.” They knew full well, of course, that my wife was unemployed. One of my other co-workers, fortunately, told them that we were just as entitled to a leg up as anyone else, and that she would organize and present it herself – at her own expense – if the bosses didn’t change their minds. Reluctantly, knowing they’d look like the heartless slugs that they were, they went ahead with it. Even though I didn’t find that part out until much later, it’s just one more good reason why that particular co-worker is my daughter’s godmother.

I’ve only been to one baby shower for a guy–in this case, a co-worker. It was a small office, with only 4 employees, so we all went out to lunch and gave him presents for the young’un. Very low-key, no stupid games or cooing over booties.
