One of my coworkers just came back from a 2 month stint in Florida handling claims on cars totalled by the hurricanes. In the last six weeks he paid out over $3million on 600 cars, mostly to 9th ward residents, and so far the team has settled over 47,000 claims. Workdays lasted 12-14 hours on average, 6 days a week. My turn comes in March. At this rate we anticipate finishing 90% of the claims by about July/August.
In celebration of his return we covered EVERYTHING in his cubicle in aluminum foil. Chair, computer, desk, walls, flor, trashcan, about 20 documents pinned to the walls (all individually wrapped). He’s got about 150 hotwheels lined up just as neatly as when he leaft–except wrapped. Very good job for someone who’s done a very good job on an emergency response team that’s doing an amazing job.
