Club Paradise
Robin Williams, Harold Ramis, Rick Moranis, John Candy…and Peter O’Toole and Jimmy Cliff, all in a tropical paradise.
Yeah, it was stupid. Yeah, the acting was pretty bad. But I thought it was a lot of fun.

I only saw it once, but I liked** Vibes**, at 6% Is that the lowest? What do I win?
For all the flack it got, I kind of liked Men In Black II (though not as much as the original). 39% seems a little low to me.
… And when was the last time you heard a movie that could be described as “deliciously moronic” winning any Academy Awards? :dubious:
My favorite bad movie (44%)— Tommy Boy
Came in here to mention this one. HALT, SINNERS! thump
This one I’d forgotten entirely, but yeah–I enjoyed the heck out of this one. Daddy would you like some sausages?
Another forgotten one. This was a favorite for me as a kid; right now I’m not sure I’m willing to watch it again, for fear of finding out that it sucks and I was just a dumb kid.
Honorable mention: Titan A.E., which clocks in at 52% over on RT. I’m a big Don Bluth fan, so I was terribly excited about him making something that tried to break out of the Animation Age Ghetto at least a little bit. Wasn’t spectacular, but it was a fun flick, and if I happened to bump into it scanning the channels I’d probably stop and watch. Plus, have to admit to a bit of a crush on Stith. :o
Another vote for Joe Dirt. In spite of all that the radio host (played by Dennis Miller) does to put him down, and the hellish parents he turned out to have, Joe stays positive. Gotta love Joe and his friends!
I’ll add another David Spade movie, PCU (47%, RT). I like this one partly because it was filmed at the University of Toronto, where I did my undergrad; but also because it is just plain funny. The university student stereotypes it portrays are wonderfully over-the-top, and it never fails to make me laugh.
Equilibrium is at 37% or so. I know it’s bad but that doesn’t stop me enjoying it.
Plus another vote for Hudson Hawk: it’s just so frickin’ unhinged.
I would see any movie with that version of the Frankenstein Moster, even if it were titled “Van Helsing II”. Shuler Hensley, btw, is a trained operatic singer.
Over the Top (36%): I am a child of the 80’s, and I had never heard of this 1986 Stallone movie until my wife found it on Netflix. My three year old son fell in love with it, and now I find myself stopping what I’m doing whenever a “good” part comes on.
My God, there are so many good movies listed here, that are too good to be rated below 50% on RT!
I came in here to add Hudson Hawk. The scene where Bruce Willis throws money to raise the gate at the toll booth is pure genius hilarity! What a great slapstick movie.
Lifeforce, starring Mathilda May’s breasts, and a bunch of British actors. By Golan-Globus standards, it had a remarkably high budget. The special effects are pretty good for 1985.
Sword of the Valiant, with Michael O’Keefe as Sir Gawaine and Sean Connery as the Green Knight. As a work of cinematic art, it is horrible. As a cinematic version of a medieval romance, it’s not bad. It’s exactly the sort of story that troubadors wrote, to entertain pampered aristocrats who never had to work a day in their lives. The music is a horrid example of early 1980s synthesizer music, but it is less annoying than the Ladyhawk soundtrack.
Exit to Eden. Dana Delany full-frontal. Rosie O’Donnell, back when she was funny.
There’s always Space Truckers, with Dennis Hopper. 9% critics, 27% watchers. I know it’s terrible, but it’s like some of the Toho monster movies, so bad it’s fun.
I can’t elieve no one’s mentioned Battle Beyond the Stars . Robert Vaughn, George Peppard, Richard Thomas and John Saxon doing The Magnificent Seven IN SPACE. And the special effects aren’t half bad in an low budget, 80’s kind of way.
Just took a cursory glance at the 40% tier, Angus and Animal Farm were pretty good.
Ace Ventura: Pet Detective clocks in at only 45%, which is obviously wrong.
I legitimately liked Space Truckers.
I’ll third Space Truckers. An unpretentious, fun little B SF movie. Dennis Hopper and Debi Mazar made it a hoot to watch.
I don’t think the Oscars are a good measure of comedy quality in general (or, really, movies in general, for that matter.) Comedies are generally underrepresented (to put it mildly) in Academy Awards as well as other film awards. I personally don’t think it’s for lack of quality–it’s just that these films aren’t taken as “seriously” unless they are dark comedies or dramedies.
Seconded and thirded. But let us not forget Pooty Tanghttp://m.imdb.com/title/tt0258038/
