When I was in a car accident a few years ago, I had just transferred here and knew almost no-one. Only three people regularly visited me during my hospital stay: my sponsor, my commander, and my first sergeant. All the nurses (most of 'em anyhow) were male.
I’m glad that if you had to get in an accident there are plenty of people to miss you, that the nurses are female (and presumably attractive), and that your relatives are close enough to see you.
When you get out and people see how messed up you are, you can always answer “What happened to you?” with:

Just got another call from Jim. Ron woke up and seems to have no brain damage. His eyes didn’t seem to be focusing properly and his speech is slurred but doctors say that’s probably from the drugs. He was able to answer questions about where he was and who the people were in the room with him. Ron’s questions to the doctor were “How long will I have to be here?” “Does the TV have cable cuz I want to watch the Cards play” and “Do I have to eat the hospital food or can my mom bring me stuff?”
I have a feeling he’s doing just fine and I don’t think it’ll be long before he starts making jokes about how the “head nurse” got her title.
It just occurred to me that Brat is the only person I can think of who suffers a major head injury and his second thought is about baseball.

About the glasses thing, the police ect. probably won’t ask, they may assume the glasses were knocked off during the accident. Go with a don’t ask, don’t tell policy on this one.
