For an amazing performance, convincingly playing a character who goes from being a schlub of a struggling writer, to a hotshot investment wiz, to a junkie in withdrawal, to a U.S. Senate candidate. A great movie, and he’s great in it.

Actually, Mark Twain published TWO sequels to ‘The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn’ .

The first was ‘Tom Sawyer Abroad’ (1894). In that story, generally acknowledged to be a parody of adventure stories like those of Jules Verne, Tom, Huck, and Jim travel to Africa in a futuristic hot air balloon, where they survive encounters with lions, robbers, and fleas to see some of the world’s greatest wonders, including the Pyramids and the Sphinx.

The other was ‘Tom Sawyer, Detective’ , published two years later. In that one, Tom and Huck solve the mystery of a lost twin and missing diamonds. Incidentally, it is this incarnation of Tom Sawyer that makes an appearance in the 2003 film, ‘The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’, as an employee of the US Secret Service and (in the novelization of the film) makes reference to the fact that he once worked as a detective.

Although since ‘Huckleberry Finn’ was itself a sequel to ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ , it can just as easily be argued that these were in fact a second and third sequel to the original novel.
