Bald/balding dopers, does hair loss bother you? (Ladies may chime in too)

My husband is balding (at age 26) and it seems to bother him a lot. He’s always been quite proud of his red hair, and I’m guessing that the red hair on his legs isn’t much of a comfort.

Honestly, it doesn’t bother me one bit. My only concern is that he is showing early signs of comb over disease. Right now, the loss is just patchy and I see him taking great pains to arrange it for the maximum appearance of fullness then carefully shellacking it into an unmovable shell. I keep telling him to either start rogaine (I understand it’s best to start early) or cut it really short, but he insists that rogaine is too expensive and he looks bad with short hair. Yeah, like that can of hairspray he uses every two days is cheap and helmet head is a hip, happening look. Oh well, I didn’t marry him for his looks…

Sigh. Can you imagine what his mid-life crisis will be like?

My hair has always been pretty fine and it has thinned a little on top, when it gets to the point of needing a comb over I’ll be shaving my head.

Maybe Lola will find the Picard look sexy…

engage!

I started losing my hair in high school and it bothered me at first. Don’t we have enough problems being teenagers without having to deal with going bald too? I didn’t go nuts or anything but I can’t say I was pleased about it either. Most of the men on my father’s side are bald too so I knew what to expect. Most of them also had cancer so I have that to look forward to. By the time I was in my mid 20’s I was “bald”. I could no longer just say that it was thinning cause it weren’t there no more! I started cutting what hair I have left very very short and it looks fine. At least my head isn’t warped, the outside I mean.

What used to piss me off was the reactions from some people who hadn’t seen me for a few months:
Wow, you’re going bald.
Yeah I KNOW! Thanks Mr Obvious!

Eh…bald on guys doesn’t bother me much. I think I have mentioned a crush I have on one of the guys who works in the lab. He is bald. He was going bald and now he just shaves it all off. I like it.

Now, if I were going bald, that would be another thing. I live in terror that I am going to go bald. I really freak out when I see little old oriental ladies that are going bald. But, I shed like a maniac and I haven’t gone bald yet…so I think I am safe for a while.

First of all, Zette: your husband is hot. If he is over 6’3", then he’s totally my type!

To all of the people who have said that super-short hair is best for balding men: RIGHT ON!

If you have a tuft in front: shave that baby down. Those are really unattractive, in my opinion. Think Bruce Willis in most of his movies - almost a buzz-cut look, and it’s very sexy.

We finally talked my dad into cutting his hair really short. He got so many compliments and looks soooo much better now. Really, guys, don’t hang on to whatever scraggly hair you have left. Buzz it.

Balding Sledman here

The only thing that sucks is that I HAVE to wear hats in the summer so as not to get a burnt dome.

I personally think I was better looking with hair but I still feel I am an attractive man.

Currently the sides are done with a #1 clipper and the top is just a tad longer. Eventually I’ll shave it…just have to get the guts. I think I have a good head shape for the bald look so when the time arrives it will be just that much quicker out the door in the morning.

The whole hiding it or spending ungodly sums to try a product that basically guarantees nothing is ridiculous.

All the men on my mom’s side of the family are bald or balding. I like bald guys. They’re familiar.

The only exception to this rule seems to be my 11-month-old son. He had a headful when he was born, and didn’t lose a one afterwards. But then, my husband has extremely thick, curly hair, and his father had a beautiful head full of snow-white hair until he passed away last spring, at the age of 77.

So I married a guy with hair. But I still like bald guys.
