What a collapse by LSU.
LSU shouldn’t have used the timeout before that final field goal try. They probably could have found it useful on that final drive. And what about their defense on that last drive? Prevent defense at its worst…
I’d hesitate to characterize it as a collapse per se, especially after the extraordinary second half they had. More like Bama finally waking up offensively and playing to their talent level. But what a freaking game overall. That was worth staying up for.
Great game. Championship teams win ugly when they have to.
Sweet Home Alabama Roll Tide Roll!
ROLL TIDE!
Down go the corndogs! Down go the corndogs!
T.J. Yeldon joins Roy Upchurch by scoring one of the greatest game winning touchdowns in recent Alabama history.
Roll Tide!
Roll Tide! And LSU was in prevent (loose zone) defense for only one of those plays. On each of the first two plays, Kevin Norwood simply beat his coverage. On the first, he beat the corner and the safety by making a great inside cut. On the second, he beat the corner to the sideline. In the third, LSU was playing soft, thinking McCarron was going for the TD. Instead, Norwood went to the sideline and burned them. The fourth play was the incompletion in the endzone, and the fifth was Yeldon’s game-winning run.
I keep hearing people say that LSU was in prevent for the whole drive. Not so. They got beaten.
It was not a collapse by LSU. Bama simply finally woke up.
I might also point out that it was Norwood who burned LSU repeatedly (specifically Tyrann Mathieu) in the championship game last year. Guy’s a stud.
… and they were blitzing on that last play.
