Is he supposed to be stinky? Because looking at that pic, the first thing I thought was, “I bet he smells really bad.”
His fingers sure are freakishly large. And why does he look like he just came out of a Michael Jackson video?
Heh! No, Knead, he’s not supposed to be “stinky”, though when he “teleports”, he leaves cloud of sulfur/brimstone. But from that picture, I can see how you’d think that…
I think he looks (and is dressed) a little too much like Toad in the first movie. And his hands and feet are horrible.
Munch, his fingers are usually drawn freakishly large, too.
I’m a bit disappointed, though a report on that site said he’s incredible in action.

I always had a bit of a crush on nightcrawler, so at first glance, I said ‘oh no!’

I’m hoping that’s an early make-up test which is being/has been sent through the process a few more times before being finalized.
What’s with the outfit, that’s what I want to know. Definitely makes him look like a carnie.
He needs to be fuzzy. and no pupils. And not have that stupid look on his face. But overall, I guess it’s alright…assuming the movie was made in the 80’s. There have been some VERY impressive make-up effects over the years, that putting together an impressive Nightcrawler costume shouldn’t be hard. Shit, a friend of mine went as Nightcrawler for Halloween when he was in Sixth Grade, and he had a more impressive looking costume than this guy. Like Otto, I’m hoping this is an early make up test and that the final project will look better, or at least better on film. I’m glad they kept the three fingered hands though, although I’m a little curious as to whether he’ll have the backwards toe or not. And I hope his tail doesn’t stick up so rigidly in the movie.
I guess what I’m saying is, I don’t like it. Yeah, that’s it.

Actually it’s closer to a toe than a heel, but really, it’s neither. Nightcrawler has bird-like talons (which are indeed, freakishly large).
As to his appearing more frightening than cute, this seems apropro to me. Seeing the comic character as cute is a byproduct of liking him as a character–he’s intended to be frightening in appearance to those who don’t know him well. Take a look at issues just after Kitty joins (roughly 140). She flinches when she sees him and repels from his touch, he’s so repulsive. The idea is that he’s such a decent person, but you have to get past his exterior to understand that.

And I don’t like it either. I definitely agree with oceans_11… My first impression was that they cut some corners in makeup by making Nightcrawler a cheap knockoff of Toad from the last one.
My expectations are extremely low, though. I’m sure he’s gonna be portrayed as just a clown.
Claws??? Kurt has 2 fingers plus thumb on each hand. The fingers are often drawn larger than normal(and pretty much have to be larger than normal fingers in live action-unless the actor is willing to undergo amputation and modification surgery). BUT, Kurt has fingernails nice, little, blue nails, NOT huge, yellow claws! And his eyes are solid yellow! No visible pupils or irises! They did solid-white lenses on Berry for some shots in the first silm, so I know that they can do solid yellow eyes.

Nightcrawler’s skin is supposed to be covered with a fine. velvet-like, layer of fur which drives the ladies wild. Even with its MANY, MANY flaws and failings, the WB’s X-Men Evolution got the fuzz right.
