I believe it is free. Looks like fun! I may have to try. Bangs really are “in” right now, but they are always a pain to grow out.

Your face shape is a little like mine, and going with short bangs was not recommended by my stylist last time I got my hair cut, because it would shorten my face and make it look chubbier. I did go with a shorter “fringe”, like long bangs that sweep across my forehead, but if you absolutely want to tie your hair back, that could be annoying. I like the look of having long bangs in front when the rest of the hair is tied back, but when I’m doing sports I always just clip everything up out of the way.
Have you thought about changing the colour instead of the cut, or in addition to it? It doesn’t have to be dramatic, but perhaps just adding streaks and a bit more depth to the hair could be the change you’re looking for.
I’m not big on bangs, & I don’t think that it would help your face. (To be fair, I have little place talking to anyone about hair style, as I’ve been growing mine out for a while & it’s just a mess most of the time.)
It would appear the general consensus is no bangs. I admit the idea appealed to me because of how good Malin Akermann looks in Watchmen, but if they’re not for me, they’re not for me. And mnemosyne, thanks for the suggestion, but I don’t believe in dying my hair. I actually like my natural color; it’s my natural *texture *I can’t stand.
Well, I don’t think that’s quite accurate in my case. I want to change my hair because I feel like crap about my physical appearance, not because I want to express myself or symbolically shear myself of something or whatever. It’s normal to want to change something that you feel makes you look unattractive.
No bangs.
Bangs. Have 'em, love 'em. Can always grow them out.
These Bangs. These… BANGS. I hate the word, I hate the style. No Bangses for the precious.
OK, this might sound weird but hear me out.
It’s a little hard to tell from your photo but it looks like you may have a cowlick. If you do, bangs aren’t going to look right. My daughters both have one (thanks to me & my 3), and they have bangs. As a result, the cowlick makes them sort of separate and expose the forehead- which isn’t a bad thing, but bangs on a woman look best when they cover the forehead, with the longer hair framing the face.
Just thought I’d mention it, as someone who has cursed his cowlicks every day he tries to comb his hair neatly, which thus far is nearly every day of his life.
I’d vote no bangs.
Your hair is extremely like mine – fine and straight. I wear semi-bangs because my face is very round and it keeps me from looking like a lollipop on a stick. You have a more oval face and can do more like you have it now – swept to the side, which looks more elegant and certainly is more versatile. I vote no bangs.
I agree. The style is perfect. Have you considered just tossing in some highlights? It’s really a good pick-me-up for me.
Why DO they call them “bangs?” Why not “short face-framing hair” or for that matter, “fucks?”
I’ve seen some hairdo segments on TV where they do a longer, off-set bang that can be pulled back or combed slightly to the side. Kind of like the top right blondie (Rich Twin One, I think): http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://theglamourouslife.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/05/bangs.jpg&imgrefurl=http://theglamourouslife.com/articles/medium-length-hairstyles-with-bangs.html&h=500&w=500&sz=68&tbnid=WWoLZXNf1Rv1SM::&tbnh=130&tbnw=130&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dbangs%2Bphotos&usg=__bUCPAnu4CogzN7NB64NlguKF69c=&ei=MqX5Sev9DYusMrCEvc0E&sa=X&oi=image_result&resnum=3&ct=image
This is what I was going to say. I like your style now, it suits your face. Highlights make hair look thicker, and will brighten your face up. At most, you could cut an inch or two off the bottom and have a stylist layer it a little to get more body, but still be able to put it up if you want, but I wouldn’t change the basic style.
Depending on what kind of money you’re willing to spend, highlights & lowlights would look great, too. That will cost more & be more upkeep than just highlights, though.
Mississippienne, you’re reading my mind.
And so are you. I was wrangling with the do this morning, and was thinking I should really do something about what’s going on with the front of my hair. Then I thought, is there some kind of website where I can upload a photo of myself, and tinker around with hairstyles. I’d even be willing to pay for it, if it were any good.
I’ll probably just end of leaving it alone out of laziness. Worst case scenario, I’ll change it, not like it, then wait for it to grow back.
So back to the OP, yeah, leave your hair alone. It’s a no-nonsense do as it is, and it looks fine. Bangs aren’t worth the effort.
There are a LOT of different bangs, guys. These might be what a lot of people think of but these, too,are bangs.
I would not grow your hair out to all one length. I have your hair type and that’s the worst you can do if you want your hair to look like it has body. If you want bangs, go for the angled bangs like in that second picture I linked. I have them and you can easily clip 'em back in about 2 seconds. Tell your hair stylist that you want to have layers to give your hair body and movement*, but that the layers still need to be long enough to be pulled back in a ponytail for work.
EDIT! Angle bangs are fantastic if you have a cowlick (as someone above mentioned). Even a halfway competent stylist will see if you have one. I only have one… right where bangs go. :smack: It’s on the left-center side, so I keep my hair parted around there, and my angle bangs start there and swoop down to the right. That way I have some cute bangs and I don’t fight against the grain of my hair.
For me, it’s less about a “message” than that my hair is kind of my “control” thing. I’m not a control freak, but my stylist and I noticed a few years ago that when something feels like it’s out of my control - job, whatever - I change my hair. We figured this out during the nine months when I was in a job from hell - my hair went from a should-length bob into a pixie because every time I went for a trim, I went “just a little shorter.” I didn’t set out to have a pixie; it just kind of happened over that nine months.
I like what you’ve got now, and second that maybe a color change will give you that lift you’re looking for.
I was going to vote bangs until corkboard’s post reminded me what a pain in the ass they really are. My ideal bangs would be thick and smooth and solid, like Olivia Newton-John’s in Grease, but in reality I could never seem to get them to cover my forehead reliably.
I have the long bangs/long layers thing now, and it’s a pretty good style that doesn’t take much work. Of course, this whole thread is making me itch to pick up the scissors and make Changes. twitch
I change my hair often, both color & style - it grows like a weed, and I like it short so I have to cut it fairly often anyway, and why not get a change while I’m at it?
It’s a simple thing that makes me feel pretty, isn’t too expensive, and I can experiment with it because if I hate it, it’s easy to fix. At the very least, it’ll have grown out in a month.
I like when Laura Ingalls Wilder refers to them as a lunatic fringe.
It would also appear the general consensus is that you’re a babe. Hope the thread has cheered you up, at least.
On some women I like bangs, but I go along with all the people above who agree you are very pretty and your current hair style is very becoming.
