Banned Users

Maybe you already do this, but is there a list somewhere of screen names that have been banned?

Esprix

Not at the present time.

However, in all their posts, where everybody else has “Member,” they have “BANNED.”

What’s the worst thing the SDMB can do to a member? They can ban you. My question is, what good is banning a member if they can still post? Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the banning? The way I see it, the punishment of banning is reflected in just having the word ‘Banned’ under your name when you post. Where is the punishment in that? The honor and privilege of posting is still being extended to these ‘cast offs’.

This is like a person being given the death penalty and yet being allowed to walk around in society with a sticker on their shirt that says ‘Death Penalty’.

Persons who have been banned cannot post. The label identifies them in posts made prior to their banishment.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, manhattan. I appreciate it.

Anti Pro asked:

Well, we could tell you.

But then we’d have to do the same to you.

And it just isn’t pretty…

(No, no, Lynn, put down the knives! I don’t think Anti Pro is going to press the issue further!)

Ah, ok. I did see that, although I noticed that sometimes (all the time?) the actual user name is deleted, as well as having “BANNED” under it (it changes to “Guest?” - I forget).

Just curious, which has gotten me into trouble before…

Deleting the name allows it to be re-used. Once around is usually enough for us, and in these cases, more than enough, so now we remove posting privileges for that name and change the designation from “Member” to “BANNED.”

Hope this clears it all up for you.

This may sound like a morbid fascination, but is there a quick way to look at the topics that have been closed? That’s about as fascinating as finding people who’ve been banned. :shrugs: I know, I know, kind of like the rubberneckers that have to look at accidents, but not as dangerous or annoying (I hope!)

Just search the forums; closed threads are indicated by the little “lock” symbol.

Have fun!
