I’m putting together a playlist for my annual Baseball Trip.
Looking for songs that have something to do with baseball (I’ve been doing this for a bunch of years, and it’s tough to find good ones I haven’t used yet), travel and driving in general (same), or specific destinations, which this year include:
Atlanta GA, Montgomery AL, Pensacola FL, Moblile AL, Biloxi MS, New Orleans LA, Jackson MS, and Birmingham AL.
Chuck Berry: “Brown Eyed Handsome Man”
Eddie Vedder: “All the Way”
Billy Joel: “Zanzibar”
Alabama: “Cheap Seats”
Warren Zevon: “Bill Lee”
Frank Sinatra: “There Used to Be a Ballpark”
For purely geographic:

[li]Sweet Home, Alabama - Lynyrd Skynyrd[/li][li]Stars Fell on Alabama - Jimmy Buffett[/li][li]Fat Sam from Birmingham - Louis Jordan[/li][li]Birmingham Breakdown - Duke Ellington[/li][li]Alabama Song - The Doors[/li][li]Alabama Getaway - The Grateful Dead[/li][li]Southern Man - Neil Young[/li][li]Angel from Montgomery - John Prine or Bonnie Raitt[/li][li]Stuck inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again - Bob Dylan[/li][li]Mobile - Randy Newman[/li][li]Mississippi Queen - Mountain[/li][li]Biloxi - Jimmy Buffett[/li][/ul]
Sister Wynona Carr - Life Is A Ballgame
Count Basie - Did You See Jackie Robinson Hit That Ball?
The Treniers (featuring Willie Mays) - Say Hey (The Willie Mays Song)
I’m jealous of your trip (especially the New Orleans part).
"A Dying Cub Fan’s Last Request,’ by Steve Goodman. (Writer of the aforementioned “City of New Orleans.” I know Guthrie’s version is pretty much canonical, but I love Steve’s. Oh, and he also wrote “Go Cubs, Go,” but, as a long-suffering Cub fan, ADCFLR was my anthem until last year.)
Birmingham Blues, Electric Light Orchestra. Also about being on the road, so a double-dip, even if the Birmingham in question is in England, not Alabama.
Easy Rider (Charlie Daniels)
Alabama Rain (Jim Croce)
New Orleans Ladies (Louisiana LeRoux)
House of the Rising Sun (many versions, I prefer The Animals version)
I’m pretty sure that is an adaption of Terry Cashman’s “Talkin’ Baseball.” I think Cashman has a bunch of baseball related songs, but I’d be surprised if the OP was unaware of that.
