Bathroom scales are worthless in the MMP

A shamrock shake has a minty flavor, it’s not just a funny color :).

I used to have a male friend who swore Midol worked great for his migraines.

I can go on for pages. It’s not always possible to prevent migraines, but it is generally possible to make migraines less frequent, make the symptoms less disabling, and so on. Many people respond extremely well to a wide range of preventive medications (which help reduce the number of migraines) and rescue medications (that help stop an attack that has started).

The very first question to ask you is: does your mom have a neurologist? If yes, is this neurologist the one that is telling you that migraines can’t be prevented? Time to find another neurologist. If her neurologist is not telling her this, then you need to review your mother’s information with the neurologist and be very clear that you want her to get an appropriate treatment plan that includes prevention. If you need a list of medicines that you should ask about, PM me. I can easily pull together a list of the most commonly prescribed medications and treatments. I also have some handy links to useful migraine organizations.

I should add that at her age if she’s suddenly getting bad headaches, she should really get an MRI to make sure there’s nothing going on physically (stroke, etc).

Metal Mouse - as always your signature made me smile.
ETA: They have a shamrock McFlurry. I might have to try that one.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 30 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 58 and N.O.S. for the day. We shall spiff da cave today. No particular reason why except that I made a comment about dust on the bedroom furniture last night so 'twas decided to clean today instead of Moanday. Sup shall be steak, baked N.O.T., sallit and garlic cheesey bread. Also, I see no need to leave da cave today, so yay for that!

Nettie I’m not big on mint flavor except for mouthwash, but if hubby will slurp down shamrock shakes, I say give him all of 'em he wants.

Nellie thanks. The food here ain’t fancy, but it is good.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, onward into the day. Rah.

Happy Sattidy Y’all!

It was TWENTY-FREEKIN’-DEGREES when I let Higgs out this morning! NOT amused! Supposed to hit 51° today - we shall see.

My big chore today is the master bathroom - it’s long overdue for a good cleaning anyway. And I’ll probably toss a load or two into the washer. And maybe push the vacuum cleaner around. I don’t want to commit to anything too early!

I would like **FCD **to take our mower to Amish Dave to get serviced before spring gets here. Dave gets really busy, but if we take it now, we should have it back in a couple-three weeks. And I may make a run to the convenience center - both trash cans are full. If the bags aren’t leaky, I can use FCD’s car. We shall see.

Sorry to rub all these exciting plans in your collective faces, but it does give you something to aspire to, right?

Happy Saturday!

Sunny Daze, mom does have a neurologist. This is not for the headaches, but for a hand tremor she has had for many years. The hand tremor is a stand alone thing, not part of some degenerative condidtion. I’m making mom promise to tell the doctor about the increase in frequency of the headaches. Also, her headaches are a thing of long standing, it’s just that they used to not come so often. My maternal grandmother also had them, but none of us three sisters do.

Afternoon all.

Got round to defilthifying the flat, dal for dinner is happily cooking in the slow cooker (and smelling pretty good, I might add), the washing’s been put away before the airer is needed for the next load. It’s almost like being a proper grown up. Am now heading out to check the bee hive didn’t blow over in the horrible winds we’ve been getting, then go to the garden centre to buy myself a houseplant, 'cos apparently I’ve never managed to get past doing stuff in exchange for bribes, I’ve just changed who’s doing the bribing…

Happy to hear Ruble’s doing better, though can someone point out to him that emotional rollercoasters are not the kind people like, dammit.

Morning all. Cold (36F) but not as cold as Mooooommms. Supposed to make it to 54F.

More book unpacking and filing is planned, along with a trip to Wal-mart for things.

Sunny, The Notebooks of Lazarus Long are from the noted science fiction author Robert A. Heinlein, and you can find them all here: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~hgobioff/public/random_stuff/lazarus.long.excerpts

Nettie, whatever works to help put his weight back on is good with me. Shakes all around…

To all others, have a good Sattiday.

Shakes are great, but I prefer coffee ones. Arby’s has Jamoka ones, and that’s it for most chains, and I don’t need my glucose bombed from orbit anyway.

The master bathroom is scrubbed. The area in the corner that I thought was a stain is, in fact, where the top layer of vinyl has peeled off the tile. Dammit. Need to figure out how to seal it.

I also swept and mopped the kitchen. I shall chill while it dries. Then, who knows…?

And regarding shakes, I have to be desperate to have the ones at fast food joints. You need to watch the ice cream being scooped into the big metal cup, with the milk and whatever syrups added. THAT’S a milkshake!

I have spoken!

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted, a load of towels in the wash, puppy crate cleaned and KP about to start.

I’ve got about the same weather as metal mouse today, so a trip to the dog park is likely.

I like shakes, but like alien, don’t want the BG bomb. When I partake, I usually go to Sonic for a mini one and it always involves chocolate in some form. I’ve never been a fan of mint + dairy, although I enjoy both separately.

Good. It’s important that she does talk to the doctor. Any changes in headache frequency and severity should be discussed with her doctor. If she has another very extreme one I wold argue that she ought to go the ER. For the record, this is exactly what they tell me and I have headaches every day. Best wishes to you both.

I think I remember sending you some soap at one time in exchange for some wonderful fruit cake. At least I think it was you.

I’ve never had a shamrock shake but I do like mint, so I prolly should try one sometime. Also I’m with Mom] on the making thereof. Fortunately we have a nice old fashioned burger and ice crean joint 6 blocks away. It’s where I go when I want a good [del]gut bomb[/del] burger.

Correction: We went and saw the Oregon Symphony last night, not the Portland Symphony, although they do hang out in Portland.
I, um, was misquoted by the lying media, yeah, That’s the ticket. :stuck_out_tongue:

Happy Saturnday y’all.

Saturday, so hashbrowns, bacon, egg, and V8. I’ll have a shower at noon, and then get out on my errands.

**FCD **and I took the mower to Amish Dave’s for servicing - we should get it back in about 6 weeks. They’re pretty busy. Then we took the trash and recycling to the convenience center, and afterwards, went for lunch. Now we’re home. I pushed the vacuum cleaner around a bit. I should probably haul the laundry downstairs and do a load or 2.

Such an exciting life I lead.

Happy Saturday!

It’s a sun shiny 52 degrees outside, much nicer than the 26 degrees when we went to the dog park.

Echo was being a butt, the first thing she did get mouthy with a mastiff. She sounds so vicious. I don’t know what set her off, the mastiff was wanting to play, I think she gets intimidated by the giant breeds. She ended up running with her tail between her legs, then got between my legs like a little wussie. I apologized to the mastiff owner - he has two that are sisters. Beautiful dogs. He wasn’t worried about it, and they were leaving anyway.
I worried a little when Brooklyn (unneutered male) showed up, but he was only interested in running with her, so I’m sure she is out of heat now.
They both got in a lot of running and are pretty tired, and happy.

I got my new computer today. Having a few problems setting it up. I’m trying to connect it with the old one and with my phone.
Taking a break from that frustration.

Howdy Y’all! Da cave is spiffed and nappage has occurred. N.O.T. are in the oven as I post. Soon I shall make a sallit and at some point OYKW will grill steaks. Oh, and garlic cheesey bread shall be made. We’re feelin’ a little hongry now so ought to be good and hongry by the time everything is done. YUM!

Sari, Echo has too learn about playing with the big boys (and few indeed are bigger–or nicer–than Mastiffs).

FCM, that reminds me I have to take my mower in for it’s annual servicing, I have a place down in Huntsville that I go to, shouldn’t take six weeks but best have it done.

cupcakes, concur with Sunny and hope your mom gets some relief.

Been to Wal-Mart and then broke fast at Golden Corral, where having bacon, biscuits, french fries, green salad and a brownie is not considered weird (well, maybe it is but nobody said anything to me…). One of my credit cards is suspended for reasons unknown, I have a call in to their Service center, they were busy so I ‘scheduled’ a call for 4:15pm. The other card I have with the same bank works just fine, so???

54F outside, so may go check the mail here in a minute. Outside of that, nothing major planned.

OMG, if I forgot getting soap from you I am so sorry. It must have been me, I do make fruitcake.

Mea masima culpa.

So far today I’ve talked with my brother and done some mending. When sheets are done tumbling in the dryer, I’ll make up the bed and go to the gym. The sun keeps trying to peek out. It’s going to rain tomorrow, but I like rain.

Yum! Jamocha shakes! Actually, my favorite is a chocolate malt. I like mint chocolate chip ice cream, but don’t know about a minty shake with no chocolate bits for contrast. Alas, I have to avoid most yummy things, or my weight balloons. I get vicarious pleasure from reading about other people who can eat well. Steak! Cheesy garlic bread! Hash browns! I’m in vicarious heaven.

Moooom, I get a kick out of a mower repair shop called Amish Dave’s. Is there a story there?
