Batman v Superman Seen it. Open spoilers

You would only know it was Olsen if you watched the credits.

It was meant more as an Easter egg than an explorable plot point. Snyder said they had no plans for Jimmy in this universe, so why not?

That was supposed to be Jimmy? Jesus fuck.

The next guy they get to helm a Superman movie, first thing they need to ask him is, “How do you like Jimmy Olson?” If the answer isn’t “He’s a great character!” they give the job to somebody else.

Seriously, stop killing Jimmy Olson. If you don’t like the character, just leave him out of your shitty movie. Putting him in it just to kill him doesn’t make your movie more grown up.

It’s true. The wife and I are credit readers. I had completely forgotten about Jimmy Olsen myself and didn’t realize it was him until I saw the credits.

The movie had too many dream sequences.

That is to say, more than zero.

I hate dream sequences.

This whole thing just seemed to be a kind of cop-out on the part of the movie makers—they clearly wanted to tie it in with some future Darkseid/Apokolips threat, with the Flash going back in time warning Batman, who then presumably at the critical moment averts the crisis, but then, they made it out to be a dream, thus ensuring plausible deniability—so that if the DC cinematic universe never gets to this point, they wouldn’t have that dangling plot. IMHO, it’s this kind of failure to really commit that is part of the reason why it might not get to this point.

For those who haven’t seen Batman vs. Superman, here it isin its entireity!

Finally saw the thing…and I didn’t hate it. Maybe it was the soft bigotry of low expectations, but I thought it was pretty entertaining. Not a great movie, but serviceable.

Liked:

Batfleck. Surprisingly good, actually preferred him to Bale. Also, I didn’t really mind Murder bat. This is an aging Batman who has grown more bitter and cynical.

The Action: Say what you will about Snyder, he knows how to do over the top comic book action. The rescuing Martha Kent scene fight sequence in particular, but also the fight with Doomsday.

Wonder Woman: Nice Brief scene.

The call back to MoS: Liked that they addressed the devastation, and showed from a human, or bat-centric POV.

Did not like:

Lex. The lines were mostly OK. But Jesse Eisenberg was horribly miscast. I get what they were going for, but it didn’t work for me. Also, his plot was full of holes, though I understand there are deleted scenes that patch some of that up.

The lack of humor: “She’s with you?” “I thought she was with you.” That was the one light moment in the thing. Dark Broody Superman is kind of annoying. Supes should be more light-hearted.

Martha: “Wait, you’re mother’s name is Martha too? That’s a coincidence, though that is a common name for women of their generation. Now let’s get back to killing each other.”

But overall, I’d give it a B, B-

And by the way why was Batman pretending that he wasn’t the one who invited her there?

Technically he didn’t. She saw the news and got off her plane, to the flight attendant’s consternation. But he did know who she was.

Finally caught this on HBO. I agree with the generally low ratings. A few comments:

-A bunch of secret identities were learned somehow, including Lex learning Clark’s, and both Clark and Bruce learning each other’s. Did we ever find out how any of that happened?

-I would have liked some plausible reason for Supes not to kill/capture Lex right before Doomsday woke up. The previous time they met, at least there was some good blackmail going on.

-I agree that Wonder Woman was by far the best part of the movie. But I actually really liked Lex. Sure it didn’t make much sense, and maybe it wouldn’t have felt like Lex if I were a faithful comic reader, but… at least it was FUN.

Just watched it this weekend with my GF. It wasn’t bad, but it had so many little things that bothered me.

The whole reveal about the Martha’s. First of all the whole delivery of the line from Superman to Batman (You’re letting him kill Marthaaaa!) was just wrong. It seemed out of place and only there to get Batman to snap out of his rage. Plus, would Superman call her Martha? It’s his mom, why not say “my mom”? Granted, it is his adopted mom, but still …

The Superman is alive reveal at the close of the film was a blink and you miss it shot. I only saw the one piece of dirt float up because I knew going into the movie that the reveal was there. It would have been a bit nicer to see 2 or 3 pieces rise off the coffin and after a couple seconds have it go to credits. Instead we get a long shot of the coffin and then just as 1 flake of dirt is lifting off the coffin, the credits come. It was too quick.
Those are just a couple of nitpicks for sure, but they just bothered me. Overall, I liked it, but it could have been better.

Apart from Godot’s Wonder Woman, whose solo film I’m looking forward to, Batman vs Superman was a muddled pointless mess that I plan to pretend doesn’t exist, as one could do with The Phantom Menace, for example.

The dream sequence of the Flash appearing before Batman was a nod to Crisis on Infinite Earths, where the Flash appears before Batman and Batman watches the Flash disintegrate.

In the forward sequence to post-Ragnarok/trench coat Batman, there is an enormous omega symbol carved into the earth. That’s Darkseid’s schtick.
