At the end of the miniseries, the Cylon’s state pretty clearly that they want to hunt down and destroy the Galactica so that future humans won’t come a’ lookin for revenge. They also have made several fairly serious attempts to destroy the ship. And they exploded a bomb right in the face of Adama, whom they think is the only person who knows where Earth is. I think they want to wipe out humanity, for whatever purpose.
Of course “God” may have a plan he hasn’t told the Cylons about yet, or is only telling them in pieces.
Considering there were only 3 points of interest (the Cylon base, the freighters, and Galactica), unless someone decided to take a longer, more creative route, a properly oriented 2D display representing the plane defined by the 3 points would be just fine.
For that matter, the number of models was inconsistent. 3 Viper models represented 12 actual Vipers, while 3 Raider models represented many more actual Raiders. So the tactical table wasn’t meant to be a totally accurate representation of the battle, just a shorthand.
It could be that there are some Cylons with different plans that the rest. Perhaps the Caprica Cylons are trying to see if Humans and Cylons can’t just get along. The ones pursuing the fleet seem bent on destruction. But maybe not all of them. The Six who may or may not be in Baltars head certainly seems to want him to stay alive. And remember, Caprica Boomer shot one of the Caprica Sixes. Why would she do that but to keep that particular Six from acting towards different goals?
That however doesn’t really mean anything, because one has to assume that the stations/companies that most of these people worked for were destroyed when the cylons came, so technically they aren’t really reporters any more. There also isn’t any mechanism to support this large crew of reporters, meaning they have no way to actually report anything, not to mention the market size can’t support that many news people. They are an unrealistic percentage of the total population.
Well I think that the problem is that there cylons like the boomers, that have the tendancy to go a little off due to being “too human”. I don’t really think that there has actually been much devation at all in the master plan however. It is has been implyed that the goal of all cylons is to find earth, as shown in “flesh and bone” in starbucks conversation with the cylon.
The reality is that it would be rather easy for the cylons to blow up ships. You are making the assumption that they are really trying to destroy the fleet. There have been clear indications that this is not the case. They have a plan for the remaining humans even if what it is may be unclear. They are simply using threat of destruction to corral the humans towards the cylon goal.

They don’t want to just take out a few of the ships though, they want to destroy the fleet. The best way to do this is to take out Galactica and leave the fleet defenseless (and apparently without water), so they’ve used what Cylon agents they have to try and take out Galactica. All of the attempts so far to destroy the ship appear to have been in earnest.
They fired an atomic bomb at the Galactica, removed thier water supply, sent a human bomb at the magazine, tried to ram the Galactica with a nuke carrying civilian vessel, etc.
Maybe, but they really seem to be cutting it close if their faking it in their attempts to destroy the fleet.
I think the press corps is reporting to the other ships. At what appears to be one reporter per ship, the market size would be exactly right for that. There is no economy that we’ve seen, so standard supply and demand issues re: ad revenue etc. are moot, unrealistic percentage of the population or not.
Oh I agree that they want to take everyone out, I just think that they want to make a few hybrids and find earth first(so they can destroy humans there too). They are getting them to Kobol, then earth, then everyone can die. I think that is the basic master plan involving humans.
Yup. I hated having to explain it (as explaining a joke simply ruins it), but your comment was being taken entirely too seriously! But it was a poignant observation - where DO they get all those models?
That’s actually a really good answer! You know there’s a store room full of BSG spoons, magnets and decorative plates somewhere. Maybe even starship license plates with assorted first names on them.
Y’know, “Items from the Galactica Museum Gift Shop” wouldn’t be a bad angle for the show’s tie-in merchandising. Keyfobs, iron-on patches, that sort of thing.
Sheba, Apollo, Cassiopeia and Starbuck retreat to an ancient navigation dome aboard the battlestar, where they intercept mysterious, fragmented transmissions (recognizable as those from the 1969 Apollo moon landings). As they attempt to enlist Boomer’s electronics/communications knowledge with the transmissions, the fleet faces a Cylon basestar. Instead of running, Adama orders a military strike. Both Apollo and Starbuck volunteer to take Baltar’s Cylon Raider to the basestar to infiltrate and cripple the ship’s systems, to give the Galactica a better chance of victory. Baltar bargains for his freedom in return for tactical data. The Galactica (and Apollo/Starbuck’s mission) is successful; the Cylon base ship is destroyed and the fleet departs their galaxy, in search of Earth. Battlestar Galactice
