Every crew member of the Pequod, except for Ishmael (or there wouldn’t be a book, right?) drowns when Moby Dick smashes it. Starbuck had taken the lead in trying to talk Captain Ahab out of his obsession with catching the whale that had taken his leg, due to the danger he was putting them all into. He was at the helm when Moby Dick attacked but couldn’t save the ship.
Starbuck’s love of coffee inspired the name of the chain.
I think it’s understandable because she had surprise and a weapon on her side for the first two.
Her only goal at this point is escape and she has no idea where she is or in which direction to travel once she leaves the compound. Upon being confronted by the third, she’s now fatigued, in pain, and lacking a weapon.
My first reaction when Mrs. Butler wondered about the cyst on her ovary was to look squarely at her and ask, “What was on your ovary during your entire pregnancy?” (Hers was golf ball size, and removed during her c-section, bigger than normal, and needing removal, but apparently it’s presence was a normal part of pregnancy)
My speculation is that she’s already pregnant, likely with Uber-Pyramid guy’s baby. But that’s a complete WAG on my part.
The development of abnormal ovarian cysts (or follicular dysgenesis, as they call it, to differentiate the process from the normal progression of functional cysts in a typical cycle) can be due to a wide variety of causes; and many are idiopathic and completely benign. The presence of a cyst in not diagnostic of pregnancy by itself (in fact they’re less commonly seen than not, and usuall if they are seen, it’s only during early pregnancy), and often has nothing to do with pregnancy. If I were an OB worried about my patients fertility, I’d probably note the cyst and wonder if it was associated with some condition like endometriosis.
Another point. She threw away a perfectly good glass knife and very swingable blunt object. Just throw your voice saying “Warning, Will Robinson!” and when Gyn Cylon turns around, smack him up the side of the head with the fire extinguisher.
What still annoys me is the fact that the Cylons have not attacked the rebel base. It’s large and has lots of heat signatures. Also, unlike a human military, the Toasters can constantly patrol. The rebels said they were sabatoging so the Toasters should be cicling until they find them - if they haven’t already. Consider that C-Boomer flies a Raider in and it takes off later. Even a Toaster sitting miles away in a simple radar station should be able to spot it. Just fishy since they haven’t shown writing of that stupid a caliber.
Starbuck escaping raises some questions. When Simon’s thoat is cut he should have sent a distress call that Six would pick up. Six was surprised by Starbuck’s attack so this strange. Maybe he was in shock and couldn’t “call” until he stabilized.
Now if Simon is dying, he should transfer his consciousness. This means that when he showed up at the end that the Cyclons had or were able to make a new body for him. Why would they have a new body ready? If they made it, they made it TOO DAMN FAST!
Now if Simon was able to stabilize himself, then what is needed is a Cylon-Tech to come in ASAP and repair his neck with a protoplaser, infuse some plasma, and get him going again. As a Cylon you would think he could suppress any residual pain. But if they could do that, then they should have fixed Starbuck’s second scar so that she wouldn’t have questioned a second incision.
Can anyone give a coherent WAG for the chain of events?
Production Question: I thought that I never saw Six’s face. Maybe I saw it at the Nurse’s station, but I didn’t pay attention. I didn’t see it when she was clobbered and I noticed the body angling to hide the face seemed deliberate. It seemed as though the actress got a week off and they used doubles to complete the scenes. However, even being weak, I would have given Six at least another strong skull smashing if for no other reason than to keep her from waking up and pursuing.
She’s got the best damn PMS in the fleet!
{ducks and runs really fast…}
I do not believe anything has ever indicated that individual cylons are networked in any way that permits them to remain in instant
contact with one another. In fact, such networked communication would render superfluous the speech-based communications we’ve seen with the “human” cylons amongst themselves and with the centurions.
There are many copies. If we are to believe the cylon Starbuck interrogated/tortured last seaon, their individual consciousness gets downloaded back to central processing (or whatever), but it seems that each individual within each “human” cylon model has its own individual consciousness. The second Simon was just another Simon, not the first one in a new body.
I believe you’re wrong about that. I distinctly recall seeing her face while talking to the doctor Cylon at the nurse’s station, and I believe we also saw her in profile when she stepped through the door before turning her back to Starbuck and getting smacked with the fire extinguisher.
Right, yet there simply has to be a ToasterNet that the humans can’t detect or tap into. Look for a Master Control Program that they can all talk to which acts as a clearinghouse for all information and a director for their activities - maybe that’s who they mean by “God”? Are the humanoids even aware they communicate with it in such a way?
Yes, I recall that too.
Maybe the Cylons didn’t bother trying to replace that Simon model because they’re a dime a dozen, not worth the effort.
Hmm. That could be a major arc plot point down the road – the discovery of ToasterNet. And finding a way to block said network. Of course, how reliable would this be with Balthar around?
It’s interesting though. Both Galactica Boomer and Caprica Boomer have the same memories of everything that Sharon had experienced while a Lt. in the Colonial service. I got the impression Caprica Boomer really does remember the first time she met Starbuck, and wasn’t just relating a story briefed to her by the other Boomer. So they may not be in constant contact with each other, but it seems like they can share memories, at least every so often.
Do you suppose every now and then models “sync up”, maybe? If this only happens when they are physically in contact with one another, then perhaps that was the reason why Galactica Boomer “had” to go meet the NBBB.
I’m wondering about Boomer. We saw (one) Caprica Boomer (B2) a few episodes ago take the Cylon ship that Starbuck rode in on.
Then we saw (some) Caprica Boomer (B3) show up tracking Helo. Can we be sure that’s the same Boomer, or are these two different ones? Could be that B2 went off somewhere, either to be safe with her growing fetus, or to rejoin the fleet, or whatever; and a different one (B3) came to get Starbuck going to where she needed to. Or they could be the same.
If they are the same, I’m left wondering why B2 left with the ship and came back.
I seem to recall Boomer saying something like “I haven’t accessed those files” when asked about Starbuck’s operations and the cylon plans for her. I took that to mean there’s some sort of central data sharing. Of course, she could have been sarcastically reacting to them thinking she’s a machine. If it wasn’t sarcasm, I’m kind of curious as to why she didn’t “access the files.” Did she just choose not to or is it a restricted access kind of thing?
I think it’s the same Boomer, simply because she has the bullet wound Helo gave her.
I think she took off in the Raider simply to get away from Starbuck until she calmed down, and possibly to go get a bigger ship.
I’m not sure how Boomer was able to fly the Raider, though. It had its guts torn out, and it took Starbuck awhile to figure out the controls. Boomer may be a Cylon, but should she really be able to hop into one of those things and know which tendons to yank?
Keep in mind that the Cylons were willing to sacrifice a basestar (with, at a minimum, dozens of BoomerBots aboard) simply for the sake of plugging Adama.
