Correct me if i’m wrong, but it looks likes the Battlestar Pegasus, seen in the previews for next week, appears to be an original style Battlestar from the original series, it looks more angular and less “swoopy” than the “new” Galactica, wouldn’t surprise me if they recycled the old Galactica model to use in the new ep
the continuity/references to the original series always impress me, it’s clear they respect the original show’s source material
Boomer, a Cylon, sent a Cylon virus that affected Cylon Raiders. What’s wrong with that? (Although it’s rather startling to suddenly find that pseudohuman Cylons can physiologically produce binary coded coherent light. . . .)
You know what? It really bugs me when people go on about the whole “sound in space” thing. Yes, everyone knows there is no sound and little light away from a sun in space. But you know what? I don’t want to watch a scenes of black silhouettes silently moving across a star field.
several people on this board will know exactly what I am talking about. if you live and breathe code you just might be able to recognise an entire program from a line or 50.
I cant wait for the new ep but I really want to know wtf is up with the new battle star? is this thing supposed to join the fleet permanently?
If given two pages of source code of a program I wrote, I might be able to recognize it. If it were code I’ve never seen before, but what you showed me happened to be the implementation of a main algorithm, I might be able to guess what it does. If it were some routine in the middle of the program that just shuffles data from one place to another, as most code does these days, I would have no clue.
Now, Boomer didn’t get source code, but what looked like a decimal dump of the binary. With appropriate reference manuals, I would probably be able to glean some information from that after a couple of hours. I assume Cylons have the advantage of being able to understand code directly, but I would still think it would be pretty difficult guess the purpose of the entire program from two pages.
It looked to me as if her reaction to the code was supposed to indicate that the code had been loaded into her system and started running. Download and install via eyeball. Perhaps she was able to stop it, perhaps not.
I never complained about sound in space or that there’s too much light in deep space. In fact, I appreciate this “bad science” because otherwise watching “good science” would just be very odd. But I only appreciate it when it’s in the background. But when it becomes critical to the storyline, like it did in this episode, that’s when it get annoying.
Starbuck can’t just turn on an interior light and say, “Oh, here I am.”
It occurs to me that we didn’t get any of Baltar’s point of view in this episode; I wonder if the hot robot lady in his head was talking to him. He seemed to be genuinely trying to fix the problem.
Tighe was in charge, and it was just one option that was presented to him. He approved it. That’s what it means when you’re in charge and something doesn’t work (although it really did work) - youu take the heat.
The networking of the computers did exactly what it needed to do - got the Galatica away from the Cylons quickly. There was a side effect, and it was dealt with successfully.
I saw that too. It seemed like there was more going on than just her trying to figure out what the program needed to do.
But that code was put in place before MommyBoomer made it back to the fleet. The plan for her, from what I’ve seen, was for her to stay on Caprica, squeeze out the new Cylon Ver 3.0, and then, well, I don’t know (profit?) So for the Cylons to put control coding into a program that wasn’t supposed to interact with the MommyBoomer seems like they like bloatware.
But some of us won’t. Mind fighting our ignorance, please?
If it’s a remake of the “Living Legend” episode in the original series, Pegasus’ fate is unclear. She got separated from Galactica during an attack on a basestar. Apparently the producers were hoping to bring Lloyd Bridges back for the following season that never occurred.
But the previews make it clear that Ensign Ro pulled rank on Commander Adama. Since he’s a central, continuing character, it would seem unlikely that he’ll be pushed aside for long.
Meh. I’m pretty well convinced that there’s several groups of Cylons working at cross-purposes here (like the Zentraedi from Robotech).
They put a lot of effort into destroying the Fleet…but they never bother to go all the way. In the context of different groups doing their commandments by and different interpretations it makes it even more likely.
Oh, yeah, we need more Dualla in her sports bra. Big time.
So…whose idea was it to use the carbon composite for the Laura? So far Carl hasn’t shown himself to be the brightest…I kind of figured (immediately) he’d gotten the idea from his girlfriend.
Personally, I liked how we’re now seeing the second-line/support guys snapping instead of just the fighter pilots.
And as for destroying the Raiders instead of capturing them or making use of them, well, who knows how long it would take them to overcome the virus? What if it was only good for a couple minutes?
[Paranoid RantMode]Y’know, it’s possible that the CO of the Pegasus could be a toaster herself, think about it, the Toasters capture a Battlestar in the First War (the Pegasus) and hold onto it until the humans “forget” about it, then they re-introduce the captured Battlestar into the fleet with a sleeper model Toaster on board, the Pegasus is either recovered at the end of the First War and reintroduced to the fleet, or after the Second War, and at a strategically important time, the Pegasus turns it’s guns on the Galactica and/or the fleet, or simply detonates a nuke while it’s in close proximity to the Rag-Tag Fleet™
just imagine the horror on the faces of the fleet if a Battlestar among their midst starts launching Raiders from the launch tubes…

But what about the rest of the crew? If the ship was held since the first war, everybody onboard would have to be a Toaster. I think the jig would be up pretty quick if Apollo and Tyrol see nothing but Sixes, Boomers, XenaBots and the other nine models over and over again. Nah, this is real, this is full of humans (well, maybe have one or two sleepers onboard), but their CO is a lot more cranky than Galactica’s.
Hmmm, a battlestar full of Sixes, Boomers, and XenaBots.
Fear is the mind killer, Fear is the little death that preceeds (?) total obliteration, I will face my fear, I will watch it pass over and through me and when it has passed only I will remain.
Bene Gesserit, litany against fear.
its from the Dune books and I did that straight from memory so its probably not word for word. just using it as an example, a few words and you recognise a 500ish page book from them.
