It could, but the number “12” seems to be an important theme in the show. 12 Colonies, 12 models of Cylons, 12 Lords of Kobol (I think), and in Greek mythology, there were the Twelve Olympians, also known as the Dodekatheon.
Would they make only 5 of the Cylon models Lords of Kobol?
I agree with levdrakon – 5 Lords of Kobol just doesn’t fit the numerology of the show.
There’s also the problem of how could the humans have created the cylons if the cylons are the Lords of Kobol. I suppose they left the door open for something like that with “All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again”, but I don’t buy it.
My guess is that the missing 5 were resurrection junkies like D’Anna, and have gotten stuck in the “in-between” state between death and rebirth.
Nah, I think all 12 were Lords of Kobol - or at least their precursors were.
We don’t have enough information yet to know why the five were boxed, presuming they actually have been boxed. We do know, however, why the sixth model will be getting boxed.
Maybe it’s too many copies of copies. Maybe it was Group A rebelling against Group B and the loser got boxed?

Way, way, way, waaaaaaay back in the mini-series Six told Baltar “there are 12 models of Cylons.” Then someone snuck into Adama’s office and left him a note, “there are 12 models of Cylons.”
Why bother doing that if 5 of the models are boxed and non-players?

Heh. It’ll be up in a few minutes. The Pacific Northwest was hammered by a severe windstorm last night, so half of us didn’t get electricity until a little while ago and the other half are still waiting. Most businesses were closed, except of course for the coffeeshops, which were forced at gunpoint to be open. 
Anyway, my whole schedule today was frakked, but I’m working on it now. So hang onto your daggits, buster. 
Ahhh…didn’t realize you were caught up in all that storm damage. Got a friend on another board in the same situation, and he just got power back as well.
Am disappointed, though. I was gonna appoint myself CAG of the SDMB, and hop in a viper. Woulda been fun…well, if we had any vipers…
