They were.
Gaeta wanted the CAP Raptor to take them out first. He could have been clearer when he ordered Narcho to engage “the target”, sure, but a guy commanding a Battlestar wouldn’t have tried to take out a Baseship with just a single Raptor.

Gaeta ain’t ths sharpest stick in the pile. Why would the mutineers accept him in command?
One would think they would rather have a pilot or command officer rather than a wireless guy.
Holy shit, or should I say,
Bloody hell! I had no idea AT ALL that Jamie Bamber was a British/Irish/American mutt. I had never heard him utter a word out of character until just watching an interview on hulu after watching The Oath.
Yeah, I spotted CPT Kelly running around. He used to be something like, third in command or something? Guess he got demoted.
I thought he didn’t survive the “mad bomber” episode.

Gaeta was a bridge officer who did the navigation and communications. He’s probably the second smartest person in the fleet.
Hot Dog is a fighter jock. He gets in a fighter and blows things up. He apparently gets laid alot.
I’d pick Gaeta to be in charge.

I just hunted him down on the character wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Kelly I guess he has anger management problems, but he’s still around.
Horse pucky. He can dial the phone and calculate a jump point, but he ain’t the guy to be in command when you take on a basestar. Which is what the mutineers are afraid of.
I like the scene with Roslyn and Baltar talking about how they both suck at picking their aids.
The episode should win an Emmy Award for Asskicking.
Umm…because he’s the only guy that could pull it off and actually knows how to run the ship?
Gaeta’s in command because he *took *command. It’s that simple.
Narcho isn’t a hotshot either, based on his success in the attack on the escape Raptor. We know from the previews how well *that *worked.
I have this fantasy of Seelix and Racetrack both being airlocked together. I especially want to see Seelix bite the dust, considering how whiney she was about wanting to be a pilot so badly.
Those of us who didn’t watch the previews didn’t know that. But I guess we do now.
No spoilers are needed for stuff THAT HAS ALREADY AIRED, godsdammit!
Have you been following the discussion about spoilering previews? If you just disagree, fine. But it would help if you participated in that discussion by providing your reasons. So far, AFAIK, everyone in this thread who’s voiced an opinion has disagreed with you. So you can anticipate being in the minority if you fail to make your case persuasively.
Again I appeal for separate threads for “live blogging” and actual discussion. No one’s with me on this?
I can see your point. I usually skip past the “live blogging” portion of these threads. It’s mostly a nuisance trying to find the point where the actual discussion starts.
But I’m not sure that avoiding that nuisance is worth cluttering up the forum with dual threads for every episode, plus the cost on the part of the poster to make sure that he/she is in the right thread.
I suppose it’s asking too much for people to refrain from posting until they’ve seen the whole episode then?
Not I. It seems normal that comments are made while the show is airing, and discussion afterward. I usually don’t pay attention to previews so I have no opinion on spoiling them.
Well, I was just hoping to avoid having to sludge through seemingly hundreds of contentless “comments.” I don’t see the need for it and it generally dilutes the quality of an episode discussion thread.
