Battlestar Galactica 4.20 - "Islanded in a Stream of Stars" (spoilers)

Yep, this show is about the characters (refreshing for SF), anyway.

Besides, Star Trek has been completely fanwanked out by now, and there is a crying need for fresh material.

I wasn’t trying to imply that she was a Cylon, just that whatever she is, thinking of herself as dead makes little sense in a universe where they don’t consider downloaded Cylons to be “dead.”

Okay, except that she herself doesn’t think she’s a Cylon, even though she’s been worried about the possibility in the past. She does now know that it was her own dead body in that wreck on Earth - apparently she had not quite accepted that heretofore.

Dang, this whole thing just may be going to melt into some gooey tub of mystic/religious mumbo jumbo, isn’t it?

It sounded like Cavil is going to try and clone Hera.

We’ve seen a few 2s/Leobans, but we see more 6s and 8s because those actresses are already part of the main cast. There is only one 3 left in the entire universe and she stayed behind on Earth to commit suicide.

Wasn’t there a pretty vigorous debate among the Cylons about Cavil’s “boxing an entire line”?

D’Anna stayed on Earth, yes, but I’m pretty sure we’d seen other Threes.
How is Cavil going to clone Hera without rez tech? Or does he think he’s going to kidnap the Five somehow, too?

Sure, but all her memories are the same. That might be a difficult philosophical issue normally, but they operate in a universe where even the humans have pretty solidly accepted that Boomer having a dead body doesn’t mean that her shooting Adama is all wiped away because she’s walking around in a new one.

Cavil did box the entire Three line. D’Anna was the only one resurrected before the Hub got blown up, so she’s the last three in the whole frackin’ universe (as she noted). She stayed behind on Earth to commit suicide. Very doubtful we’ll see her again.

Cavil has the same tech that the Final Five used to make the other eight models – he mentioned it to Ellen, that their lab was still back at the Colony. And, as he and Ellen discussed, he helped the Final Five create the other models. He even knew enough about the process to poison the entire number Seven line and hide his tracks enough that Ellen couldn’t be sure it was he who did so.

They’ve been very carefully setting up the dominoes for what is to come throughout the episodes this season. This was the episode where they started falling over. All of that backstory they dumped in “No Exit” was part of those dominoes being set up.

But I thought she was the only one who was unboxed at the hub… and the rest of the hers were blown into bits when the hub was destroyed.

Not showing the other models at this point does just seem sort of lazy and cheap. Why did Cavil even bother having things like the Raider votes if he was the big boss who could do stuff on his own say so like he now seems to?

Well, she doesn’t think she’s an angel either, but you do, so… I really hope we find out definitively what she is. “Harbinger of Death” isn’t going to cut it if that’s all we get.

I’m pretty sure it’s more “cheap” than anything – they knew they had a limited budget to complete season 4; why waste it on cameos by Leoben or Doral?

However, they have often stated that they don’t like bringing on the actors if all they’re going to be doing is standing around as extras in a shot. For example, in the attack on the Hub, all the Cylons in flightsuits standing around were Sixes and Eights; no Leobens. Because there was nothing in that episode that required Leoben to do – only <random Cylon skinjob>.

I’m sure we’ll see Doral and probably Simon too in the finale. But there has been nothing for them to do, so far. Neither model seems to be the leader type, and the Dorals at least have always been fully behind Cavil’s bloody intentions toward humans, so no surprise they would go along without questioning him.

Sorry, but I’m really confused about Hera/Sharon/Boomer. Who are hera’s mom and dad and which 8 is which? One died, one excaped and Helo is pissed at one for some unknown reason. At least to me.
I’m following it pretty well except for this, so if someone could clear that up I’d be ever so grateful.

I read about one deleted scene in Mo Ryan’s interview with Michael Taylor, the writer for this ep. I will spoiler what he said since it’s not in the ep and I don’t want to offend:

“I know that there were scenes, or at least one scene, of Tyrol in the brig, and I think my sense there was that he had confessed and put himself in there out of guilt.”

I think that’s a pretty big thing to leave out of the ep, but I guess it’ll come up in the next one.

Boomer is the original Sharon stationed on Galactica. She was involved with Tyrol.

Helo was stranded on Caprica after the invasion, and was “rescued” by a copy of Boomer.

The first Boomer had sleeper programming that messed with her psyche, and eventually led her to shoot Adama.

Helo’s Boomer fell in love, got pregnant, helped Helo escape Caprica and return to the fleet (with Starbuck) and over time, convinced Adama she was different from the Boomer that shot him. She is Hera’s mother. She took the name Athena to assert her individuality from the rest of the Boomer/Sharons.

Boomer, who was frakking the Chief, didn’t know she was a cylon (sleeper agent) on Galactica until she ran into copies of herself on a mission, then she went back and shot Adama. Cally then shot her and she rezzed on Caprica, where she and Caprica 6 started the ‘be a better cylon’ revolution. But after New Caprica didn’t work out, she stayed with the cylons and started nurturing her inner cylon with Cavil.

Helo got left behind on Caprica, and Athena impersonated Boomer, pretending she came back for him. They fell in love and she got pregnant. Helo figured out she was a cylon but eventually decided that he still loved her. Athena was somewhat more stable than Boomer because she wasn’t a sleeper agent, and also because she actually did love Helo. When Starbuck showed up for the special arrow, they left with her. Athena was put in the brig, but she helped out the fleet enough that Adama eventually let her become part of the crew. They played a trick on her at first, telling her Hera died shortly after childbirth, but secretly had another mother adopt her. After New Caprica the ruse was revealed and Hera was returned to Helo and Athena.

In the recent episode, Boomer pretended to help Ellen escape Cavil. Boomer was put in the brig because she had shot Adama so long ago. The chief still loved her so he was unable to stand by when he heard that she was likely to be executed. So he banged a random #8 on the head, turned out the lights, and switched random eight with Boomer. Then Boomer knocked Athena unconscious and tied her up in the bathroom. Helo came in so she had sex with Helo, who couldn’t tell it was really Boomer, while Athena watched helpless. Then Boomer went to the classroom and took Hera, pretending she was Boomer. She put Hera in a mission supply box and pretended she was Athena, who was supposed to go on a raptor mission. But Athena woke up and told on Boomer, and Boomer made a desperate escape, damaging BSG in the process.

Now Boomer is on a raptor, jumping to the colony, but bonding with Hera and starting to feel guilty. Athena is back with Helo, pissed at him for having sex with Boomer and letting Hera get kidnapped.

Should be pretending to be Athena again :smack:

Isn’t that just like a woman to be so petty, Cylon or not?

Thanks everyone. Who is the 8 that died in this episode? She looked beat up so I thought that was Athena. Why didn’t Helo go to the funeral?

So you weren’t content to post an unboxed spoiler just once, but TWICE? Thanks a ton from the guy who is still waiting to watch the Burn Notice finale.

That 8 was niether boomer or athena - just a “random 8” that was part of the repair crews…

My wife and I got the distinct sense that this episode will be an extended version on the DVD set. It was rushed and yet at the same time didn’t really convey much.

Actually, to be honest, it was shitty. They’d better have something awesome lined up to close this puppy out.
