I like how they pushed the gritty-TV envelope. Woman on a toilet in a coed bathroom, and major characters sharing a doobie. For the rest of the season, who wants to start a pool for the character that reveals a CSI-nipple or NYPDBlue-buttcheek?
Somebody has to cover the CIC.
thought this was the 8 that was in boomers cell after getting whacked on the noggin by Chief…speaking of Chief where the hell was he?
He’s in the brig. From the most excellent blog of Bear McCreary, who writes BSG’s music:
They did leave in a brief scene with the new Acting Chief, when he told Tigh “about” how many jumps the ship had left.
No doubt somebody is about to chime in with that guy’s entire backstory.
As others have pointed out, she’s just a random 8 Chief knocked out with a wrench in the repair area. But there’s been some suggestion that she didn’t die and was just knocked unconscious.
I think she’s a Cylon now that she’s resurrected. I think this is what makes a Cylon a Cylon. Anyone who resurrects is a cylon, anyone who is mortal is a human.
I believe she was resurrected by whatever mechanism left behind on Earth by the Final Five - its apparently still in working order…not sure God/gods are needed to explain it, although I agree there must be an overriding influence that we have not seen yet.
The Final Five did not leave any resurrection mechanism behind on Earth. It was in their ship, which they took with them on their trip back to Kobol and on to the Colonies. That is the equipment that John Cavil tells Ellen is still at the Colony. No one else on Earth had resurrection tech.
Also, from what we’ve seen, the bodies for resurrection have to be there ahead of time – as witnessed on the Resurrection Ship flyby. Resurrection tech doesn’t just fabricate a made-to-order body on the spot; one has to be prepared beforehand.
Additionally, there is indeed a verifiable, physical difference between Cylons and humans. Baltar’s Cylon detector was apparently capable of doing this for living persons, but we know for sure that it can be done post-mortem. There is also a verifiable, physical difference between Cylon-human crossbreeds like Hera, and either Cylons or Humans – and that difference can be verified via microscope, as we saw when Baltar used Hera’s blood to put Roslin’s cancer into remission. Kara hasn’t been twigged on any of these, and they’ve checked.
You’re forgetting that Starbuck managed to come back with a brand new Viper, too.

and therefore paving the way for a brand new Galactica after laying it on thick with its impending doom and self sacrifice.
Like NCC 1701A?
Yeah…want to put money on that one?

This cannot be. Pre-Boomer 8’s might be susceptible to violent attacks on the fleet. Post-Boomer 8’s as well. Post-Athena 8’s are nice and smell good and are the only ones that should be allowed anywhere near the fleet.
The whole thing still has me scratching my head, though.
Seriously? Good thing I have a Low Def TV and Lower Def ears.
Yep. While she was sitting on the toilet talking to Baltar there was a definite “water squirting against metal” noise.

Hmmm…so why (or does?) Cavill need Ellen and the Five to revive ressurction tech? He has their ship and the tech aboard, which 40 years ago seems to have been functional in allowing them to create the other 8 meatbag models. Or was that a lie on his part, too? The cylons on Galactica seem to believe its no longer functional…however, he seemed to suggest that he was breeding something for Hera to “play with”
Also, in regards to Starbuck - all those tests were run before she resurrected (the only one we’re privy to is the blood test that Baltar ran). So I’m not sure what she is, other than resurrected, but I believe that is what they had suggested caused the issues on Kobal when the tribes split. So something is out there, presumably around Earth, given her Viper reconstitution as well.
Cavil needs the Final Five to rebuild the Resurrection Hub, which is what makes it possible for any Cylon to resurrect. The Hub was presumably based on the Five’s original ship equipment, since Cavil thought it plausible that Ellen would believe that he thought she could recreate the Hub using their ship.
However, no one thought that the Five’s ship or its equipment still being around would allow resurrection to work.
What Cavil may be doing with Hera is making her into a new Cylon model; from what we know, he doesn’t need resurrection to do that. And, he helped the Final Five do the same thing with the other seven models they made, so he knows how that works.
Whatever brought Kara back seems clearly to be connected with whatever exists “between life and death.” That has come up too often with both her and the Final Five to be a red herring.
Boomer says, “I don’t want to hear that whining for the next dozen jumps.” So that could be Jupiter and her FTL is damaged so she can only make small jumps and a dozen will get her somewhere in our solar system - or a gas giant is just a prettier planet for the art department to make a pit stop in front of.
You know, the Cavilcade had a year on New Caprica to get whatever DNA samples he wanted and to begin the Cylon-body growth process on any number of humans. Imagine a whole Basestar with copies of our cast ready to be resurrected.
Well, unless the Final Five were incredible naive and stupid, they made damned sure that their Children wouldn’t be able to create or reverse-engineer resurrection tech without them.
Leads to unpleasantness, dontcha know?
