Well, sure, I didn’t suggest he was replaced on New Caprica. He could have been switched in the FIRST Cylon War.
Not if the Raiders’ (or Centurions’) ability to sense the Final Five weren’t activated until they were - by the performance of “All Along the Watchtower” that killed the power on the whole fleet at once.
I just thought that would have been a good time to have substituted them.
I think a key to understanding the quirky stuff in Galactica, such as the Bob Dylan song, is to view it not as a documentary, but as a second-hand retelling of a story. For example, Macbeth as told by Shakespeare, or Beowulf as recorded by an English monk, or even Middle Earth as told by Tolkien. These stories are full of anachronisms (e.g., the word “hobbit”) that reflect the worldview and culture of the author, not of the subjects. In asking for an explanation of how Cylons can hear “All Along the Watchtower,” we’re looking in the wrong place. The Galactica universe isn’t real, so there is no need for internal consistency. Ultimately, the story isn’t about the fictional universe that the story is set in, but on the relevance of the events to the author and his intended audience.
I disagree with you on that.
You have completely missed the larger point. You are being told the story by someone who has no direct experience of the fictional universe. We know it’s unlikely that in any such world people would be speaking English or have American-style military ranks and jargon. We also know it’s unlikely that they would hear a song composed by Bob Dylan. All these details have been inserted by someone who wasn’t there, just like in Macbeth, Beowulf, and the Lord of the Rings. That’s the point.
Maybe I phrased it wrong. The Galactica universe might have internal consistency. There is no reason to believe that the relation of the story by someone who is not part of that universe will be completely consistent.
Can’t say I enjoyed this one very much.
Let’s see. We have some unknown but powerful mystical entity (probably not Cylon) that can take Starbuck, show her Earth, build her a brand new Viper from scratch, take her back to the Galactica (and incidentally, drop her into a raging space battle), but which doesn’t have the courtesy to actually, you know, leave a map to Earth anywhere around? Just hints and feelings. So I guess we have to assume that, like, their * faith * is being tested. How very deep. That, or the mysterious entity knows that they have to stretch the mystery out for the last season for plot purposes. One of those two things. Maybe the mystical powerful entity should get its act together before another 10 or 20 thousand of the last humans get vaporized?
And Adama, despite wanting to trust Starbuck, doesn’t think of maybe detaching one or two ships (or even light-jump capable Vipers) to see if there’s anything to her “I think I can feel the way to Earth” claims?
BTW, That whole scene where Tigh shoots Adama and then hasn’t? Aren’t we all so past the whole “It was all a dream” cliche?
Meh. You buy the beer, I’ll argue about it.
Holy shit, if Will Robinson is awakened by that damn robot screaming, “Danger Will Robinson! Danger!”…
If the final episode ends with a fade to little Kara going to bed and thanking her mummy for the good-night story …
I think melting down the DVDs and pouring them into Ron Moore’s nose while he hangs upside down is a good plan. Might have to include some other producers and writers if you want in, though.
About the raider’s eye, I’m fairly sure they constantly scan. It is probably how they acquire targets. It was on selix and then Anders got into position behind it and it flipped around to deal with him. It’s targeting mojo picket up his eye pulse and thats it.
As to why the cylons hadn’t detected them before, maybe their presence in the nebula, the waypoint to Earth, that triggered the song, was what turned on their powers.
They don’t look to see if each pilot is a member of the final five before they fire. They don’t think the final five are on the fleet. This time the raider was on Selix’s fighter and Anders came in behind it, the raider flipped around and happened to be looking in his window. The raider happened to see with his own little beady eye, Anders’ communication iris pulse. It knew that the five can’t be harmed and shared that knowledge to the other raiders. They left the battle, unwilling to fight.
It was still cool. For a split second I thought Tigh actually shot Adama. The reveal was fast enough that you didn’t really have time to think about it.
Really? You honestly didn’t see that coming?
The second he raised the gun I knew it was BS. It would have been better if he had actually done it, at least that would have been an unexpected surprise.
“Oh great another dream sequen… WTF!!! What do you mean he’s dead!!!”
