Battlestar Galactica: Razor (open spoilers)

Maybe it was cheaper to CGI-Render the Rev. 1 Centurions and the cockpit of the Mk. 1 Raider, how much would it cost to build a Raider cockpit set for the few seconds of onscreen time it had, as well as build/dig up from the archives the Rev. 1 Centurion armor…

True - and honestly, I thought the CGI looked fine. And the “by your command” was hilarious.

They already had the old Centurion armor – it was a prop in the miniseries, in the Galactica museum.

And I know fanatics, er… fans… have built a replica Viper; I’m sure someone out there could’ve put together a Raider cockpit. Isn’t that basically what STNG did for their episode when Scotty showed back up and went to “his” Enterprise on the holodeck?

It’s just annoying when the rest of the computer work is so good, that they went with this. It’d be like a “Polar Express” character showing up to chat with Gollum in LotR.

That would be lame, but what other interpretation might there be of the hybrid’s prophesy? Also, how did he know who Major Shaw was and that she needed to atone? Or was that your basic fake mystic technique of cold reading someone and just making an educated guess that anyone that young who made it to Major must have something to be sorry about?

I don’t know if he meant that literally, they thought he was God, just that he was a god to his children, probably because he was one of the first machine/human hybrids. He was also quite old, which make me wonder if the older hybrids could age. Obviously Tigh could, but not sure about the other models.

Did anyone else particularly enjoy the portrayal of Fisk? I thought he came off as being very sympathetic. He struck me as a decent guy who did what most people would do in those sorts of very difficult situations. He lacked the courage to do anything about it, but it’s difficult to hate him for it as he saw first hand what that would get you. He didn’t revel in hatred and do things out of blind loyalty, in contrast to Shaw, and seemed rather disgusted with how things went down. He was no hero, but I found myself feeling bad for the guy.

Too bad he just mysteriously disappeared from the show early in season three with no explanation whatsoever. Yep, no explanation whatsoever. They should really tie up that loose plot point. At least they didn’t tarnish his character by making him pettily selfish and then have him be killed because of it, because that would have really ruined the characterization of him that we saw here.

Huh?

He was garrotted in his quarters, which was shown during Razor and in the episode Black Market. Killed at the orders of Phelan, who was running the black market, because Fisk was demanding too big a piece of the action.

Or are we trying to forget that particular episode?

Yes; apparently it’s many fans’ least favorite of the series. Since I watched the first two seasons nearly non-stop over a few days via DVD prior to the start of the third season, it’s a bit of a blur to me anyway, but I do recall thinking it wasn’t one of their best.

Regarding Razor, I’m looking forward to watching it again. The flashback technique was intriguing, and I’m thinking there’s probably bits that connect to the current timeline that I missed on first view.

That ep was NOT worse than “Black Market”.

I’m actually a little disappointed - this was allegedly necessary to set up a Season4 story line, but there wasn’t much we didn’t already know, just more character exposition (not development). The Centurions *might * have played a future role, but not without their Hybrid. Its prophecy, even taken at face value, didn’t add to the scene of Starbuck’s reappearance in the mortal plane.

But I ain’t complainin’, really I ain’t. I love this shit. So say we all!

Oh, and did anyone else hear Gina’s name as “En fierra”, or something like that? A Romance-language term for “In irons”?

I wonder if Starbuck is (or has become) one of the Lords of Kobol (whatever the hell they are). Of course Starbuck had a childhood and a mother and I doubt she would’ve had thoses visions of her if they were just false memories. I’m fairly certain that the Cylon God is the fallen Lord of Kobol who’s name must not be mentioned (Yahweh perhaps  ).

It’s old Gemonese for resurrection. Isn’t this the first time they’ve said onscreen that the Colonies have different languages? We’ve hear differect accents before.

Voldemort?

Was that guy a precursor to the nutjob “pilots”, or just one more skin-job experiment?

“Pants”? Not a term I’ve heard before.

I was disappointed. Even though this was 2 hours, it seemed rushed. There really wasn’t any character development, either. For instance-- when Shaw off’ed the civilians on that ship I just didn’t care. We knew absolutely nothing about them, so I didn’t have any emotional attachment to them. And when she walks up to Hybrid #2 at the end, that was completely out of character. Complete the frackin’ mission, Major, don’t take time to chat with the enemy. And don’t get so frackin’ close that they can grab you by the arm. Too much shit like that ruined it for me.

I think the regular episodes are much, much better.

It’s obviously tied in with what the Hybrid said, “This has happened before, and it will happen again.” The younger version of Adama heard that phrase also when he was in the original hybrid lab just before the Armistice was signed at the end of the first Cylon war.

And I actually laughed out loud at the “By your command” line.

I think a giant Battlestar-sized shark (ever notice how the Galactica looks shark-like?) was jumped when Adama stated something like, “Tactically she made no mistakes.”

I really liked BSG, but this type of crap is causing me to not care about the beginning of season 4.

Nah, the Galactica looks like an alligator. That’s coming to eat you.
I seemed to have missed Razor, and am essentially without any resources for getting the DVD version. Someone said upthread that it was available for download - can anyone point me there?

Something for everyone to remember is that Starbuck is going to bring the apocalypse - but there are two species we’re dealing with that said apocalypse could be pointing at.

I tend to agree. When they show her copping to the huge tactical error that was her ill-advised attack on the Cylon outpost (wherein she lost over 800 people and a lot of vipers), it seems stupid to have Adama saying she was a tactical genius.

Still, I generally liked Razor, but one thing really, really, really pissed me off.

Cain is a tough woman, tougher than the men around her, right? She’s even a little bit scary, right? So naturally she must be a lesbian. :smack:

What an insulting and hackneyed cliche.

I thought Razor was the best bit of fan-fiction I’ve ever seen.

Lesbians! New Hot Asian chick but with an Aussie accent! Classic Cylons!
I loved the penis that the women passed from Cain, to Shaw, to Starbuck. Of course since none of the men in the show have one it makes sense that the women have it, or at least something to remove the penis from a man when necessary.
