Battlestar Galactica; "The Ties That Bind" 18 April '08 (open spoilers)

Like I said, it could go either way. Or, per the opening credits, “All will be revealed.”

Does someone still have the Cylon AIDS or whatever someone talked Adama out of contaminating the resurrection ship with?
Maybe Doc Cottel has some in a mayonnaise jar under his mattress.

What a way for Tigh to go out. Infect himself and blow his brains out within range of the resurrection ship.

What’s also exciting is the Six’s and “good” Sharons & Leobens only took out the other Cylons on one Basestar. They also left them a resurrection ship. Cavil definitely escalated things by taking out several Basestars without a resurrection ship. Still, that’s only a handful of Cylons either way.

But, they’re talking about Cylons in general being split down the middle, and that includes how many Cylons spread out all over the old colonies, the Cylon homeworld, and who knows knows where all else? That’s a lot of Cylons who just got really pissed off. I wonder if we’ll see the full repercussions of this, like Caprica burning while Cylons go at it.

Or did Cavil successfully contain the problem? I sure hope not; that would be too easy.

When I watched that TNG episode with my brother when it first aired, after this conclusion he turned to me and said “I truly thought I saw nineteen-hundred and eighty-four lights”. Spot on for this derivative stinker.

I think it was certainly his lie, but I think the Six-side of things will make it their little quest to get the models united, even if some of those models are trying to wipe them out.

Have faith in “God” and all that.

Not immediately about saving the kid, no, but unless they take custody away from Callie do you really think she wasn’t going to try it again the next time she ran out of her meds or whatever? I think she was acting to save herself and the other four, certainly, but also to protect the future of the child.

It’s possible you’re right, but I suspect there was a whole lot more interest in her part saving The Four than The Kid.

Of course, since the kid is a Pop Tart, she may have been acting to save the Four and a Half.

Or she just didn’t want the Chief to have to keep dealing with Callie and she slipped further and further into insanity - and who knows how badly the Chief might have handled things if the kid was killed.

Remember how important the other hybrid baby was to the Cylons? I’m sure the kid is quite important to them.

I think the explanation might be far more simple. Callie represented a threat to Tory. The baby didn’t. There was no reason for Tory not to save the kid.

What was going on at 42:45, when Tyrol is sitting pensively with Adama? Last we saw Tyrol, he’d just been wrenched. I suppose he coulda been having a “women, right?” conversation but it looked a lot more somber than that.

Glad someone else pointed this out. Tory is somehow super hot and ice cold.

Yeah but that isn’t what we’re talking about (why she saved the kid). We’re talking about why she killed Callie.

I got the impression it was a “I’m sorry to have to tell you this, but we found your dead wife floating out in space” kind of thing.

My judgement of Tori isn’t based solely on her actions in the airlock. Back at the bar when Tori was fingering Tyrol’s arm and reveling in Ambrosia and her new sensations and Cally came stumbling in and made a scene Tori never even put her drink down. Afterwards, she had a look on her face like “Cally is killing my buzz, might have to do something about that.”

That’s what it seemed like to me, but it seemed to me that even Adama (and Tyrol) would be too busy trying to figure just how the frak that happened to be moping around.

Uh, so was she okay?

I think she wacked Call(y/ie) to protect herself and the other Cylons. I suppose you could make a defense case for it, and who knows, maybe Apollo could get her off.
Perhaps she isn’t an Evile Cylon, but just afraid of being defenestrated herself.

Yeah, Tory was pretty much central in that previous plot. Roslin entrusted her, as her aide, with the safety of Hera in the escape from New Caprica, and Tory groveled before Roslin when they got news of the failure. No way the half-toasterness of Tyrol’s baby has escaped her.

just finished watching this episode (we’re backwards in the UK) Tory is dead to me dead! she is now no different in my eyes to any of the known models of cylon. I worry about the implications for the other 3. I really wanted to believe these guys were the same people they always had been, just with a toasty past.

If i start plotting serious crime with some guys, and then someone overhears the plot and I kill them to protect the gang, then IMO I am evil. This is the thinking I am applying to the Tori situation.

I don’t think wanting to manipulate people to get power over them (and also to get laid) is incompatible with #1’s machine mentality. He is not interested in humanism or sentimentality. He has an ice cold outlook on the war with humans and the conflict with his Cylon enemies. He seems to embody the “bad” Cylons’ lack of empathy. I also still wonder why he’s so sure the Final Five could not be among the humans. Either he’s very wrong or he’s lying. Which might it be?

My feeling about why Tory is evil was only culminated by her cold blooded murder of Cally, which I could see as a form of self-defense, though possibly unnecessary. She seems to be reveling in her newly discovered machinehood. It seems like discovering she’s a Cylon has liberated her to give in to her sociopathic impulses and just do what she wants to do. I suspect she will hit it off famously with #1.

What “crime” are you talking about?

Isn’t being a Cylon and lying to everyone you know sort of a crime? Considering the risk they pose to everyone they claim to love. I mean, there is precedent for acceptance of good Cylons right before them (Athena), so their secrecy seems a bit questionable, and will only make things worse for them when they’re outed. It also is allowing the sociopathic Tory to act out unchecked, for all Tigh’s talk of not harming humans.
