bwha??
Err, I guess I am delirious. Here’s the post I was referring to originally. The reason I suddenly remembered that is … because of … plumbers from Cleveland… you know what, I’m just going to go back to the corner I came from…
Holy crap, Wall of Text!
Hahahahaha. Oh I remember that. That was a fun thread.
As for what they’re usually like. This will probably be something like my 15th to 20th Dopefest and I’ve always had a great time. Usually pretty chill, just folks eating/drinking/chatting/getting to know each other a little better. I’ve made some great friends. Looking forward to this one.
This will be my first one, if it goes well I’d be down for making it a semi-regular thing. Definitely seems to be enough Dopers local to here that we’d never be at a lack for people.
In case you didn’t know, that’s a shroom-fueled laugh riot, but how it relates to this thread I’m not sure.
shoehorn butterhorse
No one has mentioned the first rule of Dopefests…you don’t talk about Dopefests.
Rules???
We don’t need your stinking rules.
Anyway, does anybody remember about the skillet?
So, the plan was to drive down from Sacramento, and maybe/maybe not spend the night. Now we find that we have a birthday party to attend (for one of our son’s friends) in SF on Sunday. So we have two choices…
**Rhiannon8404 **and I come ‘alone’, then drive home, and drive back down with the kiddo the next day, or
We bring our almost-9-year-old son (who’s totally cool) to the DopeFest and get a hotel room for the night.
Never having been to a DopeFest, nor to the Chieftan, I have no idea whether or not it would be a) appropriate, and b) in anyway entertaining for our son. Any opinions???
Having been compared to a 9-year-old more than once, I say the more of us, the merrier!
The Chieftain’s restaurant closes at 8PM, though…do they allow minors in the pub?
Well, I just called the Chieftan and asked if kids are welcome and was told they most certainly are. That both the pub and the restaurant are “family friendly”.
So anyway, it looks like we’ll be bringing him with us. He’d be really pissed if he knew we’d gone to a new pub and not taken him. He’s been to all the Irish/British type pubs here in Sacramento and has become quite the expert on who has the best fish and chips.
So look for us to be there with a long haired, Led Zepplin t-shirt-wearing 9 yr old. He’s good at getting along with grown-ups and may well challenge someone to a game of darts. Oh, and he’s already go his Doper name picked out for when he’s old enough to join the boards. He’s gonna be “LedZepKid”.
SF doper checking in.
I’m in.
Wheres the chieftain though?
Apparently it’s at 5th and Howard.
I’d kinda like to drop in but… then you guys would know that I am here in the Bay Area. But maybe some people figured that from some of my posts anyway. But still… then you would know what I look like.
Oh and anyway, I have to work that night.
Wasn’t this an interesting and helpful post? No. No it wasn’t. But I post it anyway. Because I can’t go — just when I’m starting to feel comfortable and social enough to meet a group of people I know only from screen-dots.
Maybe some other time. But I may have to wear a mask.
Ah, thanks. I missed it on my initial skim.
In case anyone is planning on spending the night in The City, There are some decent deals available online. I just grabbed a room at the Hyatt Regency for a bid of $75* on Priceline.
*$93 and change after taxes and fees…parking ( ) not included.
Your car will probably have a more expensive room than you will.
You can always park out in the Sunset and take the streetcar downtown, and rely on public transit until it’s time to leave town.
What do you guys think about So Cal dopers? I will come and drink all your water! That which I cannot finish, I will use to overwater completely unnecessary plants hanging about the bar! I contribute controversial non-local suggestions about things to do in San Francisco.
I will wear a San Diego Padres cap and claim that it is a Straight Dope hat! Just kidding, I love the A’s and hate the Padres. I lived in the bay area for 6 years. I will wear leather and black clothing. No one will suspect me of not being NoCal (except when I use that term) until I start speaking surfer and valley speak.
In any case, I’d like to visit the nephews and my Pops and this is a good excuse. Count me in as a Maybe or BANNED. I await your judgement.
