Bay Area Dopers, how are you weathering this horrible heat wave?

We lived in Sunnyvale before moving to the Sacramento area 20+ years ago. Our house had no AC, but I remember there were maybe 2-3 nights each year where it was uncomfortably hot even with the windows open. And for Bay Area people, an uncomfortable night means 72F.

My phone app yesterday showed 115F for a while, so I took a snapshot of that for memories. It remained over 110F for most of the afternoon yesterday until the sun went down, and the overnight low here was about 83F. Crazy!

The high today in downtown San Jose was 99, and in Morgan Hill it was 103. That peak was just a few minutes ago, and it should start falling now.

Tomorrow should be hotter than today. My husband ordered another battery-operated floor fan for his own bedroom.

Well the guy wasn’t able to come fix my AC yesterday, but he fixed it today. Last night I took my cat and went to an Airbnb rather than spend another night trying to sleep in an uncomfortably hot house. And I did get an amazing night’s sleep, albeit that was probably partly due to the nearly sleepless night the previous night.

At long last, today is almost normal, and tomorrow should be cooler!

You know you’re in a serious heat wave when you look at the weather app on your phone and think “Yay, it’s only supposed to be 90F tomorrow!”

Dammstrate!

Yeah, but now we’ve got another smoke-storm going. Temps get cooler overnight and by morning it’s nice, but now with the Mosquito fire just up the canyon, overnight cool air drainage is dragging the smoke down into the foothills and the valley. We can’t get a break this week. :worried:

It’s “only” 92 in San Jose right now, but 103 in Morgan Hill. My town has had four power outages in four days, right during the peak of the heat in the afternoon. The citizens are outraged, and our mayor is meeting with PG&E to berate them for not updating their old and faulty equipment.

San Jose’s mayor is also unhappy with PG&E’s performance and is taking them on.

Tomorrow should see a big plunge in temperature, thank God. I hate heat, so this spell has been hell.

My sympathies to you folks in smoky zones. Fire season is only getting started, so I expect it’ll come our way soon. 2020 was the worst, I remember.
