Alright so this is like the third thread I’ve started on the show, and I have excellent news for you all! The show I’ve been speaking of so highly is coming across the big pond and showing on US Tv on the AMC channel. It’s a very interesting choice of channels to pick it up, but I’ll take it if it means I get it over here.
It premieres Jan. 14th – check out this link
Hooray! I’m stoked.
Sure, no one responds yet, but trust me - you’ll all sing my praises when you do catch this show. Ye have little faith.
I am singing your praises now, even though I just found this thread. I caught the first two episodes the other night, and absolutely loved them both. The characters are great, and so is the acting. I’m a sucker for heists and the such like, so this show had me from the start.
Looking forward to more episodes, and hopefully more viewers from the Dope to discuss with.
I love this show in only the way a fan boy can. Adrian Lester (the guy who plays Mickey) is fantastic. He’s got the suave and confident air about him and he just oozes everything a good Con man does. And then there is the legend himself, Robert Vaughn. Funnily enough about 2 weeks ago the local yellow pages began carrying a cover advertisement for a local law firm which had a pic of him promoting them. I wonder if it was coincidence or not.
sighs Such a good good show. Dopers will come around. Just give them time. Dopers do find the good tv eventually.
One thing which has vexed me was the openness that AMC has had in calling ‘Hustle’ their own show when in fact it’s a BBC show and I finally got my answer.
In googling for information I came across an article which was published last Saturday and in it I finally find out that AMC has co-produced the third season of this show so they now have their hand in the cookie jar and can claim it as their own though the first 12 episodes were made without their involvement.
Hopefully the new episodes don’t lose anything with this new Producer in the mix, but we’ll see…
I know I’m bumping a thread from a couple of weeks ago, but I just had to say that this thread prompted me to search out this show through, uh, my own alternate channels, and it’s great! This is one of the most just purely enjoyable shows I’ve seen in a long time. It’s not deep, or thought provoking, or emotional - it’s just an hour of sheer fun. It’s like “Ocean’s Eleven: The Series,” except everyone seems to be enjoying themselves a lot more. I think that’s what does it for me. The characters really seem to be having fun. Every now and then, they shoot a look directly at the camera to grin or grimace, and you just have to laugh. They break the fourth wall a few times every show to clue you in on what’s going on, and it’s quite effective. One quick look tells you a lot. It also helps that the cons are clever and, well, no one on the show is exactly hard on the eyes, if you know what I mean. The woman (I’m bad with names) is gorgeous.
That’s not to say it’s not without its flaws. The whole “con artists with hearts of gold” premise gets strained now and again, as they really have to stretch to convince us that every one of their marks deserves to be ripped off. And I’d say that about 75% of the time, I see through what’s going on and figure out the twist ahead of time. But still, even when you know what’s going to happen, it’s a lot of fun to watch, and on those few occasions where they do pull one over on you, it’s a genuine joy.
I just watched the one last night where at the end, we find out that
the African they were trying to con was actually Micky in disguise, and the whole con was actually aimed at the kid that seemed to have been drawn in by accident.
That one I didn’t see coming at ALL.
Can’t wait for season 3!
