Hustle, the BBC TV Show about a group of con-artists is back for it’s 6th season. Hustle is one of the shows that really demonstrates the advantage of a 6 episode season in the UK. Each plot is intricate and packed full, like a well made watch with no spare parts. It’s a pleasure watching each plot unfold & seeing all of the clever twists that fall out at the end.
I think the addition of the female cop to the cast is a good move. It’ll be refreshing for them to have a nemesis which is in lock step with them and I look forward to seeing how this season will play out.
I recently purchased the Season 1-4 boxed set. I haven’t seen season five yet; has it been aired in the US and I missed it?
This is one of my favorite shows. I’m a sucker for well-run cons, particularly ones where it looks like the con is falling apart but they pull it off anyway.
Hustle is great but it does take more than a little suspension of disbelief.
Much as I loved the con story, I did wonder at the policewoman’s willingness to just let him walk out so quickly. It’s not as if they had no evidence at all; they had Sir Edmund’s testimony, and I can’t recall whether the two disguised team members were wearing something to prevent fingerprints on either the fake wire or Sir Edmund’s house. They could easily have held him - and picked up his associates - while they dug for more evidence.
I just watched episode 5 and wanted to talk about it.

I enjoyed it for the most part.
I thought the mark was a really fun character (although he did ultimately become a david brent clone). The Dragon’s Den scene would be over the top for any other series, but appropriate for this series and this character, and I liked little touches like the Andy Warhol style self-portrait in his office.
The Curse thing didn’t really work for me. Mickey wouldn’t believe such a thing and people only repeatedly roll snake eyes in TV Land. (Unless The Curse is real of course, but this requires too much of a suspension of disbelief even for Hustle)
And the end was out of keeping for the characters too. Screwing over the barkeep’s business is very far from the honourable thief.
