I dunno man. Auburn gave us all we could handle and then some. Nothing for the Tigers to hang their heads about. We got outcoached and outplayed* for three quarters. Fortunately the game goes four…
and outreffed - seriously you fuckers miss an open-field facemask and then a clear horse-collar after calling us for two different unsportsmanlikes? WTF?
ETA: AND Tre Mason clearly spiked the ball after that last Auburn TD. No flag. Look, I know we won, but goddamn I HATE bad officiating. It just sucks.
Check out this screenshot I took of the twitter feed on ESPN’s Gamecast; it’s from Tim McMahon (whoever that is), posting right after Auburn went ahead 31-27 with 1:19 left in the game:

And he was! WOOT! Go Seminoles! Go ACC!
Well, fuck. We lost. I do think AU would have won if it wasn’t for that late pass interference penalty, but it was pass interference. Fuck.
I’ll give kudos to Florida State, and their fans. As for me, I’m going to cry in my beer.

I really like what you did here, and it gave me the idea to add some data to make it a little easier to predict where things will go in the AP Poll after the dust settles.
I’ve incorporated your work into the stuff I got from

If I had anything to do with it, I’d drop
Wisconsin (19) , Texas A&M (21) and Georgia (22)
and move up three (don’t care much which) from the 10-x batch not already ranked.
How things will get shuffled in the 10-x group (and up) already in the Top 25 is anybody’s guess. But we could have some fun playing with it here if y’all want to.
You can see how Sagarin’s system has sorted things out at Jeff Sagarin’s College Football Ratings (be sure to check out the conferences/divisions on down the page).
The Final AP Rankings tell a different story, as you would expect. And there’s also the USA Today Coaches Poll to maintain the confusion. But if you want the maximum dizziness feeling, check out College Football Ranking Composite
If you’re up to the challenge, pretend it’s your own ranking system that counts and list your own Top Ten, just for discussion points.
You know how Stoops makes Crimson Tide cookies? Puts ingredients in a sugar bowl and beats them thoroughly.
I know…
OU and OSU are separated by 100ths and yet OU beat 3rd rank 'Bama and OSU lost their bowl.
I also think Auburn and 'Bama should at least switch places.
His rankings are odd, I don’t care what ‘system’ he uses.

As a general statement Sagarin marches to a different drummer. Salt is needed when reading his list.
Bah. Even the composite has UCF ranked behind four three-loss teams and even a four -loss team (AZ State.)
I just noticed the Sagarin ELO ranking (what the eff is that?) has UCF at #5 , though.

For yet more fun in trying to decide which (if any) polls and predictions sources are worth a large lump of bat guano, check out the new Preseason Prediction Accuracy (2013)
The sad thing is last year’s “most reliable” can be seen at Preseason Prediction Accuracy (2012)
It’s been like that every year I have checked on it. 20/20 hindsight at best.
I predict that by 2023, we will have at least a 32-team FNIT elimination bracket and the days of controversy and dispute will be but nostalgia, remembered with fondness by only a few grumpy old assholes.
So I just read today’s column by Rick Reilly .
He starts by noting that FSU has a lot to be thankful for in this win, since Auburn was no pushover and especially since Winston had such a sub-par performance, and so he lists things (all of which are true and accurate, btw) to be thankful for, and then he ends the column with this
[
Come to think of it, I have one:
• Thank you, Florida State, for saving my bacon, not to mention my ham and my eggs. I went out on a very creaky limb, insisting you’d beat Auburn, demanding that you had to beat Auburn and end the horrid reign of SEC national titles at seven in a row, for the good of college football, the nation and world democracy.
Thanks to you, I no longer have to move to Chechnya, as so many very passionate and bad-spelling SEC fans have suggested.
Na zdorovie.

It’s the Sagarin ranking, for the purposes of the BCS. Sagarin’s always used margin of victory, but the BCS formula didn’t. In the sense in which it’s generally been used, UCF is 5th in the Sagarin rankings; Sagarin’s own internal metrics just don’t think they’re “truly” that good.
Great analysis of he sugar bowl from a Bama blog explaining why the sugar bowl was such a disaster for the tide:
Bama’s defensive strategy should have been clear. Stop the read option, make Knight beat you through the air. There was no evidence that Knight, a 52% passer, would have any success throwing the ball. What Kirby Smart and the defense did not consider, was that Oklahoma was planning to air raid the Bama D, throwing on 1st down most of the time. Give Knight credit, this strategy would have blown up in OU’s face had he not come out focused. As we know, he completed 32-44 passes for 348 yards, and looked very sharp doing so. More telling are his rushing stats. 5 carries for 7 yards, including one scramble. So 4 designed runs. This “read-option” offense basically threw away the playbook and flanked the hell out of Mosley and crew.
