If Arkansas wins on Friday, and it should be noted that they are 14 point underdogs, I think that Arkansas would have one advantage in the polls: 0 home losses. Pollsters typically a bit more forgiving of road losses against good teams such as Alabama.
Actually, the way the SEC does it is they eliminate the team with the lowest BCS ranking, and use the head-to-head matchup for the top two.
So if Arkansas wins…
- Arkansas
- Alabama
- LSU
… means that Alabama wins the SEC West.
Arkansas has to hope LSU doesn’t fall behind Alabama.
- LSU
- Arkansas
- Alabama
… means that Arkansas wins the SEC West.
How about Arkansas beats LSU, loses to Georgia, Oklahoma beats OSU, Clemson or Virginia beats VPI, and Notre Dame beats Stanford. LSU vs Alabama in a rematch, though neither would be a division winner, let alone conference winner! Hell, Stanford could even beat ND and probably be 3rd of those 3 teams. Good times for all.
Thanks. So it really will depend on the final regular season BCS standings. Shouldn’t Arkansas hope to beat LSU, have LSU fall to #3 and Alabama jump to #1. This way, they’re guaranteed a BCS Championship game appearance, without having to risk another loss in the SEC Championship game.
