Beans Baxter

Okay, the Parker Lewis thread got me thinking about other early Fox shows. When I was a kid, I loved the show Beans Baxter; I thought it was great. My favorite episode, and the only one I can remember now, was the one with demon possession, evil rock and roll, and Twisted Sister saving the day.

Anyone else out there even remember this show, let alone like it?

Did this show run for like 3 episodes before being canceled? I remember thinking it was pretty funny in an extremely absurd way, and I can almost picture the lead actor, but that’s about it. I don’t remember any specifics at all…

Going from memory:
Beans Baxter’s dad was a mailman who disappeared. Turns out he was actually an elite spy and Beans was recruited to find him. He had to keep his being a spy a secret, but his best friend, or somebody, knew. I can’t remember what the evil organization he was up against was called, though.
Seems like it ran for at least a full season, but like I said, only one I remember was the one with Twisted Sister. I thought it was awesome when the demon possessed Beans and made the toys on his shelf start dancing and head-banging to some heavy metal, then Twisted Sister came in and cast out the demon.

From memory, UGLY.

I remember quite a few episodes of the show.

I vaguely remember this show. I suspect tdn will, too.

Yeah, that sounds right. Heh, early Fox really did have some good shows.

My favorite was G. Gordon Liddy being sent by UGLY to romance Beans’ Mom (Eleanor Donahue)-

(paraphrased from ancient memory)

Liddy- I’ve just completed reading the complete works of Shakespeare for the third time.

Donahue- Well, he certainly proves the pen is mightier than the sword.

Liddy- No, actually that is proven by the fact I could thrust this ballpoint pen
through the underside of your jaw into your brain stem resulting in death in ten seconds.

Donahue- Um, yes.

The ep ends with the real Mrs. Liddy barging in & pulling him out by his ear.

The New Adventures Of Beans Baxter ran for 1 season(17 episodes). The bad guys were the “Underground Government Liberation Intergroup”(U.G.L.I), their leader was played by Kurtwood Smith, and Bean’s “frenemy” in U.G.L.I. was played by Wendy O. Williams. I loved the show, but I think the title was what drove people away.

Wendy O of the Plasmatics?

Re the title, I actually wasted some research time trying to find out if there was ever a PREVIOUS “Adventures of Beans Baxter”- if there was maybe an old remote TV secret agent named Beans Baxter whose name they decided to use.
