Beantown mini-Dopefest, anyone?

I honestly can’t find the one decent picture of me that exists in my digital archives. The other pictures would pretty much just encourage people not to come.

That said, yeah! I can do that evening (I think).

Do they have a bar where we could meet up before moving to a table?

And lorene, I met you at the ice-skating Dopefest, and you’re perfectly lovely!

Yes they do, downstairs. That works for me.

Thank you. There just really isn’t any photographic evidence of that—did you notice I said “the one decent photo that exists of me”? And that photo is over 3 years old!!

Anywho, we clearly don’t need to resort to gimmicry to get people out. Yay!

C’mon, worse than this?

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that picture. Pictures of me would kill to be like that picture of you. (Yeah, I know, makes no sense).

Cool shirt, too.

Well, it looks as though I killed the thread with my nonsensical reply. Still, I don’t want this to get lost and/or forgotten.

I saw on Ch 4 this morning that the hosts for this year’s Pops concert/fireworks are Dr. Phil mcGraw and his wife. Anyone else find that just plain weird?

Oh, please. It looks like poachers stalked me through the jungle, herded me into a small pen and then took my chin to sell on the black market.

Of course it is. Has that ever stopped television people from doing anything, ever?

My larger complaint is that the live show makes any concessions to being televised at all. I think the organizers should tell CBS “Look, we do this show for the people of Boston. If you want to set up cameras, fine; but don’t expect us to keep our audience waiting while you do 4 minutes of commercials.”

So it looks like so far we’ve got:

Telemark
Robot Arm
aruvqan
The Weird One
Pammipoo
DianaG
ralph124c
lorene
tdn

Some of which are definite maybes. (Did I miss anyone?) I also invited Sal Ammoniac in another thread, and am looking out for Cal Meacham. If you can think of anyone else that might want to come, grab them in another thread if you see them.

Should we maybe establish an e-mail thread as a central communications line?

Are we still planning on the 11th? I think that still works for me.

Enough people have agreed to it, let’s just set it in stone. I don’t think we’re going to come up with anything better.

Besides, that means I get to meet you all in just a week!

So far, that’s nine of us.

Should I go ahead and make the reservation. For, say, 6:45? We can start meeting in the bar at 6:00.

Oooh – thanks for the invite. (“CalMeacham – ask for it by name!”) This is at Durgin Park? I’m not sure I could make it by 6:30 from work. If I came, could I be a little late? Could I bring Pepper Mill and our 8-year-old MilliCal ?

Only if you don’t mind exposing her young mind to a WeirdO like me.

But yes, feel free to bring them.

I’m pretty sure they have pepper mills at Durgin Park, but I’m guessing they let you bring yoru own. Maybe they charge a corkage fee?

I’m having a lousy day. I’ll head over to the bar now and save you all seats. See you next week.

Please do.

However, as I said before, they have a really weird policy about latecomers. As in, they don’t allow them. Yes, it’s a stupid, stupid rule.

When could you make it?

I just made a reservation for 12 at 6:45 under the name of Cecil. I just spoke to the manager and he said he knows nothing about a latecomer policy, so we’re cool.

We’ll meet in the bar downstairs. I’ll keep a copy of The Bostoin Phoenix on the table, conveniently opened to Cecil’s column.

Here’s the menu.

July 11th? 6:30?

Someone tell me where this place is and I will be there.

That’s this coming Tuesday, right?

6:45, but we can start meeting at 6:00.

You know how to get to Quincy Market? It’s in the North Market, not quite in the middle. There’s a big flag outside.

The website (linked above) probably has directions.
