I was reading a promo article for the upcoming Beauty and the Geek series and the writer was describing the “geekiness” of the males contestants. One of the things mentioned was that one of the geeks had memorized Pi “to five digits”.
I see two possible interpretations. One is that the writer has no idea what they were talking about and doesn’t understand what memorizing Pi to five digits means. The other is that somebody did explain the concept to the writer and they were still impressed by the intellectual prowness it took to memorize five numbers. I’m not sure which possibility should embarass the writer more.
Maybe the promo article screwed it up? I saw a TV ad for the same show and it said something like he memorized Pi to 50 digits or some larger number which would make more sense. I think the background also showed a really long string of numbers to reinforce it.
I had a friend who got to the final rounds of selection for the last season of the show. As it turns out he didn’t make it, but my roomies and I ended up watching the show purely on hilarity alone.
Great season opener! I missed the last twenty minutes because my interest starts to wane when they get to the whiney and bitchy segments. Which two couples got sent to the elimination round? I hope Scooter returns next week; I smile just looking at his happy face.
I think Nate is a ringer. I mean, he’s already a performer; he’s in a rock(?) band. He was not a bit shy about doing the standup comedy routine.
Sanjay & Tori and Dre & Erin. See the other spoiler box for the results.
They went from 6 questions in each round to 4 this season - two for each contestant on each team. Erin got both of her questions right, Tori got both of hers wrong. The guys came up, Sanjay got his wrong and that was that. Sanjay and Tori left.
Awesome. Each of the first two seasons had a guy I went to college with as one of the Geeks. I didn’t know either guy well, but I had met one of them at a party once, so it was pretty surreal to see him on TV. I watched some of the first two seasons because of that, but now I’m watching for the hilarity. Oh, and because I have an obsession with geeky guys in general.
Was anyone else going “Ohmigod, Freakonomics was such a fun read, I can’t believe they didn’t read it!!” Because…come on. If all you have to do in a game to win a huge amount of money is to read a book, and you don’t do it, you’re just stupid. Really, really stupid. I wouldn’t have been nearly as nice as Sanjay.
Thanks, Interface2x.
Tori and Sanjay were a pretty weak team.
I still insist that I don’t watch or like a lot of reality tv shows, but this one is really interesting viewing.
As far as people not reading a book to win a game, in the first episode (I think) of Seventies House, only one contestant out of maybe sixteen of them had read any of the books and magazines that were on the shelves and coffee table of the seventies house. That person won the first round, because all the answers were to be found in those books and magazines.
