Beckdawrek is bad, bad, bad and nearly dies. (Or how a Doper saved my life)

Yes, yes she has. I’m even getting complimented on another board. [ old rolleyes ] Can’t I go back to keeping my light under a bushel basket? I was comfortable there.

^ Sorry, no good deed goes un-punished.

Mission accomplished!

Why is your doc less than enthused about the monitoring device? I’m thinking at the very least, it’d reassure your DIL and L’il Wreker, who, worrywarts as they may be, clearly love you and want you around–a very large club with only one entrance requirement.

I’m not sure why he doesn’t like them. We didn’t get into it too far. I go back Monday and I plan on having the talk with him. Of course my kids want one on me, asap. We’ll see. I have always, I mean for decades, been able to keep tight control. Very few alarming crisis’. I’m aging so things will no doubt change. I’m on it.

Please do have the talk! My friend who uses it swears by it. At least maybe you can get enough info to check into it more. You should not be living alone without some sort of passive alert system monitoring you.

I’d suggest a new doctor if he continues to not listen to you, but given your description of your location, I have a feeling you’re not exactly spoiled for choice. :frowning:

I also have nutritionist I see. I called them today. They want to see me too. They have been saying the same thing about my remote locale. I’m gonna have to adjust some things. Until then my kids are driving me batty. Mr.Wrekker came in this afternoon. Read me the riot act. I’ve been checking my glucose a bunch and monitoring my food intake. I have a Sinus infection for sure. The clinic called me an antibiotic in, today. I want to think that has had something to do with everything going haywire.

I’m sure it does, your body has finite resources for keeping you well.

one day I have to meet mr wrek ,

Wow, that’s scary, but what a great story! Glad you’re doing well, Beck, and great job, dropzone.

If anybody ever tries to tell you “people you meet online don’t count,” here’s a great way to refute it.

I’m still gobsmacked that it happened. Everyone still wants to know who the ‘Dope’ is. They are clueless about the SD. I’ve spoken many times about something or other that I read here. But they don’t realize the community of people, real people who think, care and respond. Possibly if I was to sit the lil’wrekker down and told her she would get it. After all she’s had a screen in her face since she was a baby. It’s a crazy thing. And I’m very glad it’s here.

Slight hijack…

I’ve been Diabetes Type 2 for over fifteen years now. I haven’t been the most diligent in keeping track (I’m on oral meds, not insulin), but my numbers are good and that makes a body complacent.

Today we got the word that COTU#1* (first grandchild, a girl) went to the clinic with a suspected urinary tract infection. The pee-in-the-cup screening showed a sugar level of over 300. Subsequent bloodwork put her BG at over 400. The kid was admitted, and will probably be hospitalized for several days while everything is stabilized.

She’s nine.

We’ve all been kicked in the head. Big big changes for everybody in the future!

Diabetes is a nasty, evil disease. It makes people (especially kids) feel like weird alien things, and it has the capacity to destroy eyes, kidneys, extremities. It’s probably one of the fastest growing diseases in the United States.

Take care of yourself, Beck. And I promise to do the same!
~VOW

*COTU stands for “Center of the Universe.” That’s what a grandchild becomes. We have three now, so they are, respectively COTU#1, COTU#2, and COTU#3.

Oh, man. I was diagnosed at 3yo. I grew up not knowing any thing different. I suspect if they can her stable and in control she will adjust. It will never be normal, but she can have a full life. Good luck and give her hugs from me.

Yay for Droppy, and bad bad Beck needs to get her monitors happening NOW. Don’t listen to your stupid doctor, DEMAND a remote monitoring device.

You got lucky this time. What might have happened if DZ hadn’t been around to translate your message into ‘OMG…EMERGENCY’?

Seriously, we like having you around. Get a husband who hangs out at home, or get a monitor. We don’t care which.

My mother refers to y’all as my imaginary friends. The people from Mensa are my premade friends.

** Dropzone**: Few of us will ever be given the opportunity to save a life. And fewer would have gone to the effort to track someone down the way you did to save them. You are indeed a hero.

Beck: Don’t let Dropzone’s heroic deed go to waste. Look at this as though you are working on someone else’s behalf - you are too acclimated to your own sense of well-being to be objective here. What would be the safest plan for an outsider in your circumstances, or somebody that you care about? What would you advise them?

Aw, bullshit. I’m just a busybody with a phone and a little bit of information. Any one of you would do the same.

Kids, many of y’all weren’t here on 9/11/01 so you haven’t seen the outpouring of support and “Has anybody heard from So-and-So? Doesn’t she work in one of the towers?” that it triggered. The Dope has been a family for a long time.

I 100% trust that you’re on it, but would you please let us know on Monday what the doc says about the device? If he doesn’t like them, what alternative does he suggest? Does he realize you’re alone much of the time? I’ll not criticize Mr. Wreker for not being around more. You two have fashioned a marriage that works for you, and I have a feeling you’d be pretty unhappy with him being in your face and underfoot all the time. I will say, though, that unless the cats get off the beams, recognize when you’re in glycemic crisis, and learn to use cell phones, you’ll need something better than what served you before Operation Dropzone.
