I am looking to move into my new place soon, and I have been considerign some options. One idea is a loft bed, but I have a couple of concerns that I was hoping you Dopers might be able to assist me with:

How sturdy are these? I am looking at one with a metal frame, if it matters.

Is sex strange/uncomfortable/awkward in a loft bed? I can’t say I’ve ever had the experience, but blowing a few hundred bucks on a bed only to find out that it’s bad news for said activities would be a bit of a bite…
Any other recommendations for modern bedding at reasonable prices would be much appreciated.
What is a loft bed? You mean a bunk bed? Or a bed that goes in a loft? Or a futon type bed?
Sex in loft beds sucks. First off, you are just way too close to the ceiling…many positions are hard or impossible and all are cramped and wierd. Secondly, it’s good hygine to urinate after sex (helps prevent bladder infections) and nothing is lamer that having to conjure up the presense of mind to make your way down a ladder, pee, and then get back up the ladder. By the time this complicated thing is done, all your dreamy afterglow has melted away.
Both my sons had loft beds in their college dorm rooms and were okay with them – at least as far as they were willing to tell me.
As for the sex part, one of them had an 8-foot ceiling while the other had a 14-foot ceiling. I imagine that made a considerable difference
