Been trying to find/remember old B&W movie title

Searches of the web in whatever search engines don’t help because the little memory I have of it are too vague.

I was just a kid in the mid-70s when I saw it on TV: it was I guess a dark-ish comedy about a man named “Zero” with an overbearing shrew of a wife and hassled at his job to the point he murdered his boss. He ends up on death row and is presumably executed at the end, with the credits rolling as angelic sounding chorus sings something like “we laugh we cry…we talk too much… we ( never see? )…how little we are”.

Disjointed memory to be sure, but just wondering on the odd chance someone else might remember it.

Thanks.

Sounds like THE ADDING MACHINE, with Milo O’Shea.

Link to Wiki description.
That definitely looks like what the OP described.

That’s it. Thank you, thank you, thank you all!

I thought it was an older movie than it was, since it’s set in the 1930s. I’m going to try and find it.
