Beer Can E.D. and The Mother Yeast, The MMP

Well, it’s all settled: Technical Thingies is sending me to Charlotte North Carolina next week for training. Reservations have been made, and the per diem check is being cut. I will be spending the week with Big Fat Paulie, who is recovering from a fall at his house. Wednesday night he woke up around 2 a.m., went into his kitchen to get something to eat, lit a cigarette while leaning up against the kitchen counter, and promtly fell back asleep while standing up. He fell and pulled a muscle or something in his back.

I tell ya, I can’t make any of this up.

Hello, all from Beantown. finally found a wireless connection for class tonight. Daughter likes BU lots. I like it better, too. Rainy and stormy here today–no umbrella. Tired.
I have been having weird dreams, too–last night I asked Stephen Colbert about his children’s vaccinations, among other things…
Off to go to dinner now. Bye all…

Sean, bwahaha! Too funny. Poor guy.

Oh. My.

I was just seriously and unmistakably propositioned by the principal’s secretary at one of our schools.

I even hesitated because I wasn’t sure I heard what I heard. She interrupted the somewhat stunned silence that was me to say that yes indeed, I DID hear what I thought I heard, and that I should consider that an open offer with no expiration date.

Gahh, MBG! Gahhh!
Sunspace, dulce de leche is caramelized condensed milk, and it is delicious. You can buy it in the Latin American grocery stores in Kensington Market. And then eat it with a spoon.

It’s been an exciting all-toast day here. I should probably have some more before leaving for work. Whee.

MBG: The Walkin’ Pile of Sexy
Somehow that just doesn’t sound right.

Cool op, Beerbearon! I agree, the Mother Yeast is frightening, though. Especially Julie’s version of it!

MBG:

I’m glad the waters are receding, BooFae. If it’s any consolation, I have a friend in San Antonio, Texas who’s already put together his ark plans and is ready to start building any day now, so you’re not alone.

Welcome to the newbies! Love offerings of chocolate go to FCM. Nicknames will ensue once we decide what they should be. And even then they’re subject to whim on a change, obviously.

I’m having a dull and boring day here myself, thank heaven. The most exciting thing was going to a doctor’s appointment, and while waiting for a scrip to be filled, went browsing in the thrift shop in the building that supports the hospital, and found a really nice big stainless steel thermos for cheap. My life is so exciting.

Otherwise I’ve just been working and listening to Lapin Blanc laugh at the kitchen disasters in a 50±page thread on another forum that was linked to in the thread here on the Dope. She finally had to stop reading the thread because given the choice of hearing something amusing or work? Well, duh, what would you do. Hey, it’s all her fault!

Oh, I take it back, one good thing did happen. Our insurance makes it financially insane to buy any long-term prescription locally, so we have to mail-order a three-month supply at a time (but the copay is very low). However, in a truly stupid move, they shipped my heat-sensitive prescription by UPS ground from Phoenix to Maryland, letting the scrip sit in truck for the seven days it took to get here. It says right on it it’s not supposed to be stored at above 30°C/86°F, but when I opened the package it was actually hot to the touch, which it is not supposed to be, obviously. And even though those temp limits are for longer-term storage, the pharmacist I spoke to agreed that seven days in a truck would probably qualify! So they’re sending me a replacement batch. And since we’re talking about over $400 worth of prescription here ( ), needless to say their quality control people will be looking into their own stupidity. I agreed that that would be a good idea. What idiot puts a heat-sensitive prescription into a UPS ground shipment in Phoenix in July? :dubious:

Back to work, since Lapin Blanc is finally being nice to her mommy and has closed that thread for now!

Of course, there’s only one way to answer this:

Is she hot?

Nice OP, Swampy! Glad you had a nice birthday. I don’t think the motheryeast sounds scary though, to me it just sounds kind of big and squishy and happy.

Congrats on the test score, BBBobbio!

Lili, hope you’re feeling better, and good luck with the move. Those Oreos sound amazing! I think I have a new craving…mmmm…

MBG, that’s just wow.

Nice, uneventful weekend. My big activity Saturday was going to the library to stock up on the next couple weeks worth of reading. Yesterday I visited my mom then went to my BIL’s house to play Wii - that thing’s not bad! He just got it yesterday so they were having a Wii party.

Someone at my mom’s work gave her a zucchini from her garden, which my mom doesn’t really care for and gave to me, so I made zucchini bread. Tonight will probably be hobo chicken for dinner, should go get started on that.

More to the point: who among you are married, and to whom? And if the answer to that question is any form of “I am married”, what sort of hookupage is permitted among your marital arrangements?

MBG – some people get all the luck…

We’re all packed up and ready to go, although our flight is only tomorrow night – so you all still have another 24 hours or so to suffer me here :stuck_out_tongue:

Roo – The swallow swoops in the midday breeze.

Did I mention how insanely busy it’s been today? No, I don’t think I did, because I was too insanely busy to do so. It’s only Monday and I’m already pining for the forthcoming long weekend.

Mr. BusDude - Is it wrong that I heard porn music when I read that? Also, there’s a joke about riding a bus in there, but I’m not going to make it.

Swampbeer - There is just something very apropos about a can of beer doing its own crowd surfing. Also, “mother yeast” sounds like the basis for an interesting B-class horror movie.

Okay, time for me to go come, so once again I’m going to have to play catchup later.

<snerkin’ my butt off!>

That’s easy - Joolie! Welcome, and don’t forget you must send me chocolate love offerings. The love has been mighty sparse of late - that could explain why I’m not sleeping well.

Seriously, I’m in one of those stupid cycles where I wake up every few hours for no apparent reason. I was dragging at work today, even after 2 caffeinated cans o’sody. Seems to me, last time this happened, it lasted for 2 weeks. Swell. And just today, I found out I have to work mids from Aug 19-23 to support a project. Have I ever mentioned that I’m not a night person? Well, I’m not.

We got a little rain overnight, and I drove home thru a storm, but it didn’t make its way into my county. Blah. It is dark outside still, so maybe we’ll get lucky.

swampster, you mention MotherYeast and I envision the mother creature in Alien. That could be a subconscious reaction to my dislike of beer. Or I could just be weird - your call. Like I don’t know what you’ll say…

Well, I need to run to the pharmacy to pick up a buncha meds for me and my sweetie. It’s going to be $$$ because we both ran out of Lipitor at once. Stoopit cholesterol. :stuck_out_tongue:

Off to CVS before the storm hits…

I did not even notice that until you pointed out, but it’s freakin’ hilarious.

I thought that was on purpose…

Thanks. I aim to please! I should probably clarify–we didn’t take Herman to the beach or amusement parks or anything like that. It was usually just when we went to visit family. So he didn’t get to go on roller coasters, although that would have been interesting. People might think it’s weird to take your friendship bread starter on vacation, but I think it would be even weirder to try to find a friendship-bread-sitter.

I like DDL Oreos. It’s okay if your coworkers don’t like them–more for you! They’re even better dunked in milk–it brings out the flavor.

MBG, you’re too hot to handle! It’s a good thing you’re not single–it’d be like a feeding frenzy if word got around that you were available.

FCM, I’m not sleeping very well, either. I think my circadian rhythm is an hour out of sync with the rest of the world–it seems more natural for me to go to bed an hour later every night, but that doesn’t work very well when I have to get up the same time every morning.

Mindy, quit slacking!

Mama Tigs, it was very stupid of them to cook your medicine. You’d think they’d be just a little more careful. Doesn’t it have a little note on it saying it’s not supposed to get hot? I hope you get replacements soon.

Fearless, what is hobo chicken? It sounds like something out of Bugs Bunny cartoon.

MagicOrbs, it was indeed stupid of them to cook my medicine. It’s Lidoderm, which is a lidocaine patch that comes in boxes, which clearly say right on the front of every box and every individual packet within each box what the temperature limits are. The pharmacist actually called the manufacturer while she had me on hold to see if they’ve ever actually tested those limits, which of course they haven’t, but since it’s noticeably less effective than it normally is, she actually trusted my perceptions and agreed to overnight me the replacement meds. Plus now I know the secret code to get my meds shipped quickly in the future by Caremark – tell them I have 0 daily doses left. Anybody else who has to deal with Caremark, make a note of that!

I must look to see if I can find DDL Oreos. There’s a little Latin supermarket just down the street, so I will have to wander over there and see if they have them. Otherwise I’d have to go closer in to DC; this area is pretty non-adventuresome as far as food is concerned, alas. Papa Tigs and I both still miss this wonderful grocery store (that has since closed, alas) near where we used to live in Silver Spring, Maryland that we used to count languages in. It carried a little bit of everything for virtually every national group that lives in the DC area, and when you think of all the embassies, that widens the horizon well beyond the average! It was rare to have more than two people in the store with the same native language (including English). Listening to the customers there was was almost as fun as going to the hardware store next door and listening to the (for example) Cuban employee trying to converse with the Russian customer. They theoretically had English in common, but it was frequently just theoretical.

I should be working. Why am I not? Oh, I remember: Because I finally got caught up with rereading Harry Potter 5 and 6 and am at last starting HP7. I work a bit and then another chapter calls me. And since I have a big (but fortunately very easy) job with a tight deadline, that means I will have to use HP7 as my reward: Work so much then read another chapter. That’s the key to self-employment, rationing one’s rewards to keep one’s nose to the grindstone!

Wow, so many newbies: how cool! Welcome one and all.

What interesting dreams. LiLi, even if tinyninjachef turns out to be truly tiny, it’s likely s/he’ll come with a built-in alarm so that you’ll never misplace him/her for long. And Spacey, that was a pretty surreal dream too.

My dreams are seldom that detailed. Although I’m still bothered by the dream I had early this year, wherein I was visiting Local Best Friend’s parents’ house. But it wasn’t the house I’ve been to. It was, however, a house that I knew I’d been to before. It was kind of a cross between my aunt’s house, an apartment I lived in a couple houses ago, and maybe the house I lived in in Berlin about 20 years ago.
MBG - that’s just…ick. I suppose it’s flattering that she thinks you’re attractive, but…there are better ways to express this idea.

Hmmm…Dulce de Leche Oreos. I had no clue they existed.

Herman on vacation cracked me up, too. I’m picturing him on rollercoasters despite your disclaimers, ME.

I’m sure that’s bbs2K’s spider, Puggy; please send it Boston-wards.

I’m part of the bizarro sleeping patterns club too. Slept a bit better last night, but Saturday night it took me forever to actually fall asleep. I just couldn’t find a comfy spot.

Long, tiring meeting most of the day. Now I need to decide what I’m doing tonight. Starting with dinner.

I’ll be back after I’ve eaten something. I’m thinking corn on the cob.

GT

I went to bed early last night on purpose, since I have to get up at 7am on Monday mornings, but it didn’t help at all, and I think I ended up falling asleep at my usual time - 2am. I think I need to start forcing myself to wake up at 7am every weekday if I’m going to break this habit. Next semester I have 8am classes. :: shudder ::
