Bermuda triangle and conspiracy

Random shower thought:

how/why did the Bermuda Triangle fall out of favor with the “Conspiracy Loonies”, while other CL-fads (flat-earth, moon landing, and new ones: 11/9, vaccines, covid) seem to be doing well?

(just to make clear: I am not so much interested in a debate of the B-T, but the falling-out-of-favour aspect …) I do distinctly recall, reading more or less “mainstream-bestselling-books” on it as youngster/teen in the late 70ies and 80ies …

The only thing I can think of is that mysterious disappearances stopped happening long enough ago now that nobody cares. When I was a kid, the famous flight of Navy torpedo bombers had disappeared only 20 years go. Now it’s 80 years.

Kinda like this, once there’s lots of evidence of absence, it tends to carry the day with at least some of the credulous.

from xkcd: Settled,

I’ll also suggest that CT’s are now a big business. There is serious money being made by inventing and selling new ones. Not so much in trying to revive interest in boring old ones.

It’s like the Bermuda Triangle Mystery has disappeared in to the Bermuda Triangle!

And took Bigfoot with it, along with Elvis. They have become mere cliches of themselves at this point and have moved onto marketing spokesman. I guess it’s hard to market the Bermuda Triangle since it’s not really a good reason to sell people on going to Bermuda.

I like the OP’s question.

The wacky 70s were a time when NOW these mysteries were going to be solved. All the things they didn’t want you to know, all they ancient mysteries, would be revealed. Not just the mystery of the Bermuda triangle*, but pyramid power! Kirlian photography and its relation to the supernatural! Uri Gellar! Ley Lines! The face on Mars! The Nazca lines as proof of extraterrestrials! Lysenkoism! Atlantis! Laetril! Chariots of the Gods! All were going to be revealed!

We were going to soon be living in a wondrous world where all the previously unknown or “mystical” things would become common knowledge. We could tune our auras, resharpen our razor blades in home pyramids. We would soon become the children of the new age.

And…nothing happened. We still live in the boring, science-based, double-blind study world. We were lied to!

And now, all the old, interesting, mysteries that confronted us, were replaced by boring easily-disprovable shit like chemtrails. Maybe “I want to believe” in auras, but I don’t believe in chemtrails.

I want my old mysteries!

*Elvis needs boats.

There’s still plenty of Bigfoot/Sasquatch belief here in the Pacific Northwest.

But even Bigfoot deserves a nice beach vacation every now & then

Perhaps because it is hard to blame the government for it, or even billionaires. Most of the CTs I see these days involve a government cover up. The BT thing never did. It was just a mystery, perhaps tied in to Atlantis or aliens or spooky other dimensions.

Also planes and ships outfitted with GPS and satellite radio don’t vanish as often as they used to.

Bigfoot exists! I saw him on the The Six Million Dollar Man.

I just saw this after closing out this thread. (I don’t think I saw it mentioned).

Here’s the corrected link:

Due to competition and higher labor costs near Bermuda, the triangle was offshored to the Indian Ocean.

I had a book in the ‘70s called The Bermuda Triablge Mystery: Solved, by Lawrence Kusche. It explained several/many of the disappearances and phenomena. Like, Flight 19 were not where the… Conspiracists? Mysterions? Woo People? said they were. Instead, they got lost, flew out into the Atlantic and ran out of fuel.

I’ve been dropping the ball in that department, lately. Thanks for the correction.

Yeah, this. Bigfoot is a natural phenomenon, and an elusive one at that, so we really don’t expect to see him all the time. But ships and planes? Those are human inventions, and we track them very precisely these days. When one goes missing, we usually know pretty well where it went down, and can recover debris fairly quickly. We couldn’t do that 50+ years ago.

The Bermuda Triangle was interesting because so many planes and ships disappeared “without a trace”, and people starting talking about sea monsters and dimensional warps and what not. But now, where are the dimensional warps? Did they just stop once we started using GPS in everything? Of course not. The use of GPS just proved that these disappearances had nothing to do with such things.

See, the reason CT’s like the Bermuda Triangle mystery are being abandoned is because THEY don’t want you thinking and talking about it. You think it’s a coincidence that we’re suddenly talking instead about 9/11 being an inside job? No, it’s better to have your attentions directed squarely at that or how the earth is flat. Pay no attention to how government ‘grey’ budgets have increased dramatically in recent years. Wake up sheeple! You need to start asking questions like who stands to benefit most by nobody paying attention to the Bermuda Triangle! I’m not going to point fingers, but will just say isn’t it an interesting coincidence that CHER seems not to have aged a day since about the exact same time the Bermuda Triangle business went out of vogue. Just saying…..

We’re Through The Looking Glass Here, People!

True, I’m just saying that he is no longer part of a CT. He is now a celebrity that you need to hire in order to get him to show himself.

Unlike Elvis that wants to be left alone so he is is paying impersonators to throw people off. I know for a fact that Elvis is living in a trailer park outside of Ansonia Ohio.

Right! - the biggest beneficiaries of the BT is and always was - big Pharma! - EVERYBODY KNOWS THIS!

People, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!
