Best 1 season tv series that should not have been canceled

Another vote for My So Called Life…

I also liked Higher Ground

And Opposite Sex

Both shows werent great or anything, just enjoyable… They were both shown at at about 2am when there was nothing else on, I guess that made them seem better.

Max Headroom
Greg the Bunny
American Gothic
- Gary Cole is very underrated.

Here’s one that will probably not get any seconds thanks to it’s obscurity: Nichols, starring James Garner.

It ran in the early 70’s for a season and maybe a little more. I loved that it was set in the US west in like 1910, that real in-between time when the old west and the modern west overlapped; not many shows deal with that twilight period. A number of years ago I once read or heard that when James Garner was asked his favorite role he replied Nichols.

All this discussion and no mention of the first show that got ‘FOXed’?

I submit to you gentlefolk:

The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr starring Bruce Campbell.

Freaks and Geeks. Brilliant show
American Gothic. Creepy and well done

This is my answer in every single one of these threads. I stopped watching ABC after they cancelled it, I was so mad.

Also, another vote for Firefly.

Another vote for Firefly.

And I think Space: Above and Beyond had a second season on the Sci-Fi Channel after they got FOXed, but I could be wrong.

I’m seconding Brimstone I loved that show and miss it greatly. Such a good concept, very understated acting. I have a few episodes on tape and every time I watch them I can’t believe Fox cancelled it.

EZ Streets. With Joey Pants as the chief bad guy. You’ve gotta love a guy who keeps severed hands on ice to provide spare fingerprints.
Good writing, strong characters, it didn’t have a chance.

I agree with whoever said American Gothic. It was a really creepy, yet fascinating show.

I’ll never forget the commercial where the girl with the southern accent says, in the creepiest voice ever, “Someone’s at the door…” chills

Man, that was such a brilliant show. If I remember right, they used to run it before the X-Files. But then it got kinda weird, with the orb and everything. And then it got FOXed.

Time out, time out, time out!!!
This thread has gone this far and nobody has mentioned “Police Squad”?
The shame, the humanity…

Don’t know how dated it would be… anyone remember Square Pegs ?

Yet another vote for Cupid and Firefly.

Cupid was worse though, because I didn’t expect it. I knew Firefly was doomed from the very first episode they showed (out of order).

OK, it wasn’t all that great in terms of characterization, but it was Damsel in Distress city. They didn’t just tie Stephanie Powers up, they hogtied her upside down on a trapeze swing over a pool of piranha. Now, that’s good television.

John Doe

Haunted (it so would have found and audience if it wasn’t on UPN)

Pasadena (victim of post-9/11 coverage)

Miracles

The Random Years (see UPN)

Another vote for Freaks and Geeks. The closest thing I have ever seen to a realistic depiction of high school.

I’ll twelfth:

[ul]
[li]Firefly[/li][li]Freaks and Geeks[/li][li]Adventures of Brisco County Jr.[/li]
and add:
[li]**Call to Glory **[/li]
[/ul]

I’ll second these:

Bakersfield, P.D.
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
Now and Again

I’ll add to this list:

Thanks

I wish UPN had given “Legend” more than a season. I really liked the Richard Dean Anderson - John DeLancie combination, and it didn’t take itself seriously. For a sci-fi/western, it was quite funny.
