Best $8 ever spent

I just got back from a trip to Target with 2 of my roommates. We were guys on a mission. Growing up with Nerf was good, but imagine the fun to be had in a house of 5 college guys with this nerf gun.

This is either the best $8 I spent, or the worst. So far I’m watching 2 of my roommates mod their guns in verious ways. One is trying to figure out how to get his to auto-recock itself and the other is modding the loading mechanism.

And for Penny Arcade fans, make sure you’ve seen this comic. We’re using this as a base rules for engagement.

Oh this is going to be fun.

<snerk!> That first panel remings me of the Great Dow Jones Nerf Wars of '99. They ended when modding reached the level of “remove suction cup, affix dart”.

Toys R Us. 20 Shot. I’ve got a five year old version, and it still fires. Full automatic. Pump 'er up before battle, then aim and shoot. Remember to lead the target.

Of course, my sidearm is the Nerf Maverick.

I’ve been trying to order the damn thing since I saw that Penny Arcade, but I can’t figure out how to get the Hasbro website to ship to Canada.
I haven’t been able to see from pictures is how you cock the thing. Does the gray piece in the back pull out?

Personally I’ve always been partial to my Lock’N Load. Modifed of course. It’s probably the most simple gun Nerf ever put out. I’m sure my grandkids will end up with it as a family heirloom.

Two words;
Laser. Sight.

Yeah the grey piece slides back. Though there are some guys who buy two, tie strings to the back of it and then make use of extending further than normal to let the string recock it for them so they don’t have to grab it.

My roommate was telling me some people are using Airsoft laser sights which are grip sensitive so it only turns on when you squeeze the grip. Oh. My. God.

We’re having so much fun. I’ve already learned the art of the door shield. Barricade myself in my room and utilize the door as cover. Fire, slip the door shut, recock. And keep the door angled to collect return fire…

Heheheheheh best $8 ever. So much better than wasting it on some movie.

Gah, its out of stock in most online stores. But she will be mine.

Oh and thought I’d link to this monster of a thing. There are those who take Nerf very…seriously.

Pffft. My Super Soaker CPS 1200 rules you all.

Of course, it’s hard to beat the homemade flamethrower

I haven’t had a Nerf gun in years. My brother and I used to get one or two every Christmas. What I really remember is that darts are better than balls for accuracy.

Do Nerf projectiles absorb water? Would it be against the rules to soak them, and freeze them?

If you don’t get hurt, how do you know who wins?

A few weeks back I bought 3 of these and took them into the office.

A co-worker and I have gone on several Comando runs against the staff.

We’ve lost most of the darts already. Just today I picked up two 30 pack refills.

I want THIS!

Oh my gosh, that homemade blowtorch is sweet!

So what happens when someone gets shot? Well, besides you insulting their manhood.

Slightly different than mine, but the same mechanics. Find one of these, and your opponents run in fear.

My boys (ages 4 and 6) each got one of those for Christmas. However, two of my brothers (ages 23 and 25) were also home for the holidays.

My children were quite glad to see their uncles finally leave so they could have a turn.

Modding to include a CO2 cartridge rather than using the pump should make for an interesting weapon.

We had a geek fest yesterday with a few engineer student friends over discussing various mods. CO2 cartridges were quite prevalent, I opted for a mod for the barrel and adding weight to the handle to help balance the gun better… I’m also pondering site mods.

We’re seriously having way too much fun with these.

I think I’ll mod one to work with my ten gallon air compressor. Time to buy a longer hose.

Oh yeah. You could put shoulder straps on one of those small (3 to 5 gallon) air tanks and hook it up to that. Recharge to 135psi with your compressor and have air power for massive shots.
