I just got back from a trip to Target with 2 of my roommates. We were guys on a mission. Growing up with Nerf was good, but imagine the fun to be had in a house of 5 college guys with this nerf gun.
This is either the best $8 I spent, or the worst. So far I’m watching 2 of my roommates mod their guns in verious ways. One is trying to figure out how to get his to auto-recock itself and the other is modding the loading mechanism.
And for Penny Arcade fans, make sure you’ve seen this comic. We’re using this as a base rules for engagement.
<snerk!> That first panel remings me of the Great Dow Jones Nerf Wars of '99. They ended when modding reached the level of “remove suction cup, affix dart”.
Toys R Us. 20 Shot. I’ve got a five year old version, and it still fires. Full automatic. Pump 'er up before battle, then aim and shoot. Remember to lead the target.
I’ve been trying to order the damn thing since I saw that Penny Arcade, but I can’t figure out how to get the Hasbro website to ship to Canada.
I haven’t been able to see from pictures is how you cock the thing. Does the gray piece in the back pull out?
Personally I’ve always been partial to my Lock’N Load. Modifed of course. It’s probably the most simple gun Nerf ever put out. I’m sure my grandkids will end up with it as a family heirloom.
Yeah the grey piece slides back. Though there are some guys who buy two, tie strings to the back of it and then make use of extending further than normal to let the string recock it for them so they don’t have to grab it.
My roommate was telling me some people are using Airsoft laser sights which are grip sensitive so it only turns on when you squeeze the grip. Oh. My. God.
We’re having so much fun. I’ve already learned the art of the door shield. Barricade myself in my room and utilize the door as cover. Fire, slip the door shut, recock. And keep the door angled to collect return fire…
Heheheheheh best $8 ever. So much better than wasting it on some movie.
I haven’t had a Nerf gun in years. My brother and I used to get one or two every Christmas. What I really remember is that darts are better than balls for accuracy.
We had a geek fest yesterday with a few engineer student friends over discussing various mods. CO2 cartridges were quite prevalent, I opted for a mod for the barrel and adding weight to the handle to help balance the gun better… I’m also pondering site mods.
We’re seriously having way too much fun with these.
Oh yeah. You could put shoulder straps on one of those small (3 to 5 gallon) air tanks and hook it up to that. Recharge to 135psi with your compressor and have air power for massive shots.
