I have an idea for a chase movie. Let’s name all the best- heck, all the ones we can- chase films. A chase film, I define, is one in which a character or possibly characters is pursued by another character(s) as the main plot of the film.
The Fugitive
North by Northwest
The Chase (the car chase movie with Charlie Sheen)- not very chase-y
The Running Man- again, not a chase movie as I want
Minority Report?
There have been scores of man-becomes-part-of-government/secret conspiracy-and-must-flee films:
Enemy of the State- w/ Will Smith
Most Wanted- w/ Keenan Ivory Wayans
How about Raiders of the Lost Ark? Indy is chasing the Ark and the Nazis are chasing Indy. Intercontinental chasing! Jungle chasing! Truck chasing! Ship chasing!
Yes, I know I’m reviving a 6 year old zombie, but I am enraged that no one in this thread mentioned The Terminator, the greatest chase film ever. Y’all musta been sleepin’ that week.
Well, now that we’re seeking brains, how about raising John Belushi with the Blues Brothers dammit? They accrue pursuers the whole movie, whether police, country and/or western musicians, Illinois Nazis, and Carrie Fisher. The best chase part is the mall, of course.
That mall chase scene was shot in my home town of Harvey, IL. It was probably the first mall I ever visited. I also learned that the movie producers left the mall entirely wrecked and the city sued them for repairs – no idea of the outcome of that. The mall had closed down some years before and was an empty shell anyway, but TPTB had dreams of attracting new businesses to it. That never happened.
Oh yeah, they had both kinds of musical pursuers, country AND western.
Oh, cool. I guess I can now say that the Net was partially filmed in my hometown - the bridge scene at least. I don’t think anything got destroyed, though.
