Now, I don’t watch TV much, so I hadn’t seen most of these. There are some classics, like the Honda Cog commercial, and some newer stuff I’d never seen.
It was great fun watching these. I shall now spend the next week or so singing about berries and cream. And I was blown away by the Obama ad, Yes We Can. I’d never seen it, and if you ignore the fact that it’s an ad for the Democratic candidate for the Presidency, it has a message I think everyone can appreciate.
A lot of these are made either to (a) show online only (like the Bud Light “Swear Jar” spot), or (b) for awards or other special uses (like the Honda “Cog” spot, which is 2 minutes long).
The Starburst ‘Bus Stop’ (or 'Berries and Cream, as it tends to be known) pales in comparison to the ‘Fiesta’ one. I cn’t youtube at work, but it involves a guy eating some flavor of Starburst, and saying it’s like a fiesta in his mouth. It then cuts to a mariachi band inside his mouth happily playing music, and then promptly getting chewed and swallowed, ending with one of them looking up and shouting “POR QUE!!!”
Brilliant.
Edit: And I agree about the Cadbury commercial. The pinaccle of human advertising in the last ten years is a $50 gorilla suit? Really?
You’re supposed to think it’s having sex. Look at his face…his eyes close, he is moving to and fro, he is breathing hard…basically looks like a porn star.
