Recently I discovered this great video for Rilo Kiley’s “Breakin’ Up” and was shocked to discover it was fan-made. What other fan-made music videos are worthy of adoption as “official” videos for songs?

A fan made a version of a video for One Republic’s Apologize that’s more popular and a lot better than the official one.

I once saw an Anime Music Video for Coldplay’s “The Scientist” that was oddly poignant.

I love the Alf video for Weezer’s This is Such a Pity.

I learned to edit by making this music video. I can’t claim it’s the “best”, but the artist liked it enough to call me and thank me for making it.

A friend of mine made this: Busses by tys tys. I don’t think the band ever made their own video, though, so I don’t know if this counts.

Yep.

This was before she started directing her own videos (I think Hounds of Love was the first) and she wanted to ask questions about editing. I’m afraid I wasn’t much help, as I was reduced to a babbling idiot. The kicker was when she said “You used bits of the film that I was thinking of when I wrote the song”.

She really is a genuinely sweet person.

The official video for Bon Jovi’s “Bad Medicine” IS fan-made. They handed out video cameras to the fans who showed up. The band played the song live an assload of times (among others) and then collected them back up at the end.

It was the coolest thing EVER back in the day.

Now THERE’S a band that loves their fans. :smiley:

I personally wouldn’t call that fan-made. It’s cool and interesting, but it’s more like fan-shot. The fans didn’t come up with the concept or do the editing.
