Best iphone/droid game.

So, I find myself getting my gaming fix on my iphone instead of my computer or console these days.

The games are relatively cheap but you can waste a lot of time playing games long enough to figure out that they suck.

What are your top app games?

Tits of the Islanders.

Katamari Damacy, Where’s Waldo, Word Warp, Tron Legacy (I really like the lightcycle controls), Associate This, Kitt’nCannon (remake of the Flash version), Fling, Unblock Me Free.

They’re all pretty small timewasters though, I don’t play any of the longer, more complicated games.

ANGRY BIRDS!!! Best game ever hands down.
Close runners up for Cut The Rope, X-Plane(s), Toy Bot 1-3, Hungry Shark, UNO, and Flight Control.

My wife really likes Angry Birds. The kids play Bubble Ball. I actually liked the Risk game, but I mostly play on the iPad these days. I’ve got Dead Space on it but haven’t tried it yet…looks pretty cool though. Oh…if you don’t have Pocket God that is pretty fun sometimes.

Doodle Jump. Scrabble.

Game Dev Story.

It’s a sim game where you manage a game development company and try to make hit games, and if you do well enough, your own console. It’s kind of tricky at first, knowing what kind of person to hire and what areas of their skill to increase, but still a lot of fun, even if you care nothing for the game industry.

Bejewelled, Mr. Driller, Infinity Blade, Street Fighter IV are my picks. Oh, and Phoenix Wright, if you haven’t played it! Gun Bros is reasonably entertaining for a while, but gets old fast.

If you like old school console gaming, there are quite a few ports of old games, like Golden Axe, Sonic… the controls are a bit suspect, though.

Baseball Superstars 2011 is pretty damned fun.

Angry Birds is incredibly overrated. It’s not bad, don’t get me wrong. It’s just not the best game ever.

iPhone. Here’s a short list with the rough genre in paras. I mostly like casual games on my phone, so I don’t like things like Civ Rev and the more PC-like games. Even well-done they pale compared to a “real” PC game, whereas I find little casual games work quite well on the phone.

Solomon’s Keep (Rogue-a-like)
Solomon’s Boneyard (Survival Shooter)
100 Rogues (Rogue-a-like)
Highborn (Turn-based Strat)
TikiTotems (Casual Puzzle)
Space Miner (Asteriods + Story RPG)
The Creeps! (Tower Defense)

Get the FreeAppADay App and subscribe to the Touch Arcade RSS feed. You’ll see a ton of free games with reviews. Save a lot of money, spend what you do smarter, and still run across more decent free games than you’ll have time to play!

Town-builder and less annoying than Farmville: Adventure Bay, We City, We Farm, We Rule. They’re all the same network (Plus+) so just use your login code for all of them and grab random people’s IDs to build a list of people you can make trades with. No nagging involved.

Time management: Sally’s Spa, Cooking Dash, Mystic Emporium. Fill orders, keep customers happy.

Turn-based strategy: Highborn is the only one I have. Bonus: It’s got a lot of humor too.

Puzzles: Puzzle Agent (charming graphics, good voice acting, very worth it for puzzle fans), Puzzle Quest 2.

Quick little “swipe around on the screen” games: Fruit Ninja, Skyburger, Cut the Rope

Trivia: MovieCat

“Tower defense”: Plants vs Zombies

I don’t have a smartphone, but there’s a version of Carcassone that my sister swears by.

There is a pretty cool pinball game and a pool table simulation game as well, though I don’t remember what they are called (I don’t have my iPod Touch with me).

Carcassonne for iPhone is pretty good, yeah. It’s a good implementation of the actual board game, and you can play it online with friends if you like.

Plants vs. Zombies for iPhone is pretty fun too, although it’s lacking the “endless mode” that the original version had, and this makes it somewhat limited for repeat play, IMO.

I like the pinball series from Gameprom: The Deep, Jungle Style, Wild West. In that order, although they are all worth playing IMO.

I don’t know of a great pool game, I have Doodle Pool and it’s decent enough, but still a bit lacking.

Steambirds is short but a lot of fun. Turn-based fighter combat.
BlockRogue is a neat dungeon crawler based on sokoban-style puzzles, all procedurally generated. Highly recommended.

Thirded. If you’re into “Euro” boardgames, Settlers of Catan is also available, but I think the implementation isn’t as strong.

If you’re into text games, there are tons of good adventure and puzzle games for iPhone with Frotz. Android has Twisty for the same.

Droid Words is a good scrabble game.

Hmm? If I’m not having fun within a few minutes, I’m out. Which is also why I avoid almost every iPhone game like the plague.

My wife and I are big fans of Drop 7 for Droid…
