Best Kroger Movie Purchase EVER

So a few weeks ago I was making a Kroger grocery trip and as I approached check out I stopped to check our their DVD rack, on which I saw one thing which necessitates further examination, “Puss in Boots” starring Christopher Walken. That’s right, the man himself starred in this movie.

So I decided I couldn’t resist, I had to find out just how good of a movie it was. I bought it and then proceeded to forget about it until last night when the roommates unearthed it in a pile of stuff on one of the couches.

So we put it in and sat back for the next 90 minutes and just laughed so hard we cried.

This was obviously a low budget, and it is 17 years old which provides some very humorous movie effects. Like the transition from feline form to Christopher Walken. But it also features some one liners which are all too memorable such as a character off screen yelling “Grab his butt!” as our main character (not Puss in Boots) is wrestling with the king’s men. On top of it all are ear shattering song and dance routines (Christopher Walken pulls a very nice cart wheel in the movie.)

As for being a children’s story, it’s cute but I doubt it would hold much interest to kids these days when they have options like Toy Story and such.

Here’s the IMDb entry on this film:

I presumed that this was part of Faerie Tale Theatre, but instead it’s part of another film series called Cannon Movie Tales. Faerie Tale Theatre_ was produced and narrated by Shelley Duvall. Both series are (apparently) feature-length live versions of famous fairy tales.

Oh, I love that version … I originally saw it in about 1990 as I recall.

He really does a good ‘smug cat’, and the sets are pretty ‘fantasy medieval’. I may have to go find a copy now=)

It must be asked…

is there enough cowbell?
