I’ve decided to post this here instead of the cafe since I’m not asking opinions about movies themselves…
So, in your opinion, what site that caters just to movies is the best one to buy dvds from? I know lots of sites (amazon, B&N, CDnow etc) that sell a variety of things, but reel.com is the only site that just sells movies that I can think of and there must be many that I’ve simply never heard of.
Express.com and bigstar.com come to mind. Though Express may have filed for bankruptcy - I’m not sure. They and Reel had the best prices in their respective heydays (sp?), though.
Reel.com contracts through buy.com as just a quasi-separate front-end, and not a separate corporate entity any longer, at least the last I was aware of. Back in the glory days of suicidally-cheap online buying, reel was one of the most suicidal (and bless them for it, about half my collection is from them).
These days, I mostly use Buy, as their prices tend to be a bit lower than others.
I had a really bad experience with DVDExpress and vowed never to use them again. I’ve ordered twice from DVD Empire, and had no trouble. Their prices were about the same as Express, and they even had a phone number with a (gasp!) live person on the other end for customer service.
Looks like Blackstar now charge for postage. Still, not a lot (given it’s the same rate for local and international) and they do have a good range. <sigh> Check sources first, post second…
