Best place to find new maps/mutators for UT2004?

I’ve recently become readdicted to Unreal Tournament 2004 and have been having a blast rediscovering the joy of fragging hapless bots on my way to the next node to convert, or to score my team some points in Bombing Run, or even just running around endlessly shooting at anything that moves in a good old fashioned DM, but honestly, I’m tiring of the same cycle of maps.

I’ve fiddled with the different out of the box mutators, most of which are cosmetic, though low-grav and insta-gib are fun. But I’m looking for a reliable place to download some new toys to maintain my addiction before my interest peters out.

Any suggestions?

Just offhand, you can take a look at Planet Unreal, but a lot of their links may be out of date. Looks like whoever’s been tasked with keeping their library up-to-date has been slacking off since last year, although the Community Bonus Packs have enough custom maps to choke a Skarrj.

Another place to try is the official Unreal 2004 forums, and poke around in the maps/mods section. A lot of the things there will be betas or just ideas, but some of them are pretty spiffy. Also check out the Make Something Unreal Contest winners, which was a competition held by Epic to encourage the modding community. Don’t only stick with the winners, though - the runners-up have good ideas.

I can’t find links right now, but my favorite gametypes mutators are Jailbreak and Greed. Alien Swarm’s a full conversion into a top-down squad bug hunt, which is a refreshing change from all the Counter-Strike clones out there. As for straight up mutators, I like UTRPG (gives you statistics that you upgrade as you earn more points, as well as the occasional magic weapon [very fun with Invasion]) and Vehicle CTF. And if you play a server that has a map or mutator you really like, use the Cache Cleaner to nab it from your cache and put it with your own files.

Finally, I found some decent skins/models at Polycount and Skin City (which is not a good site to look for on Google if all you have is the name :stuck_out_tongue: ).

Try Mapraider.com for maps.

I recommend these mods highly:

Red Orchestra, a mod based on combat in Eastern Europe during WW2.
AirPower, a mod that adds helicopters and jets to Onslaught and Assault games. (check out AdvancedArmor and BattleBikes on the same site.
and, I’ve heard good things about Air Buccaneers.

I’m writing maps, too. If you want to see my maps, go to mapraider and look for maps by dmdoug66.

And, I’ve talked to klintypooh about getting together online to play but haven’t got together yet. I’ll try again- does anyone want to meet in multiplayer UT?

Excellent, thank you! Just what I needed to invigorate my interest. The WWII mod looks amazing, I’m downloading it now… can’t wait to give it a whirl

Thanks for all the links, I’m going to scour them now, and I’ll be sure to check out those maps Hermit.

I’d join in on online play but, shall we say, my version isn’t compatible with others.
